A good price considering it comes with the keyboard and 1 year of Office 365, this comes to 1,283.98 on the Microsoft store at the moment. Don't forget quidco.
Scroll down on the page to see the deal for £768 with McAfee, which I highly advise you to avoid at all costs. Windows 10 includes defender which is better than Mcafee, and free.
There is also a bundle for 748.99 if you dont want Office.

I can browse the web fine on a 1GB Windows tablet, you must be doing something wrong.

Good spot, no one wants mcafee!

Most devices are more expensive than equivalent from last year, blame brexit or weak pound.

That's meaningless! IOS is not a general purpose operating system and it's Apps are optimized for lower amounts of memory! A Surface Pro can run identical software to a PC (in principle!)
4GB RAM is disappointing for a device at this price point.

The link goes to the bundle with McAfee, if you wanted to save a tenner or so, here's just the typecover, office 365 and i5 Surface Pro
It's got more than a more expensive iPhone 7/plus

The backlight bleed on the one I had wasn't brilliant either.

Before saying 4gb is not enough. Go and try it you nay be surprised. Excellent bits of kit as far as I'm concerned. Yes I do own one.

You pay for the form factor.
4gb ram is absolutely fine for most tasks. You should know if you require more.
I've got the 8gb SP4 and its absolutely fantastic. Best device I've owned. Battery could always be better, and that's the only thing I'd like to see improved.

4GB of RAM on what's essentially a high-end laptop running Windows is anything but "fine" Anno Domini 2017; you can saturate the 4GB by just browsing the web, somewhat depending on the browser.
