You pay for the form factor.

4gb ram is absolutely fine for most tasks. You should know if you require more.

I've got the 8gb SP4 and its absolutely fantastic. Best device I've owned. Battery could always be better, and that's the only thing I'd like to see improved.

4GB of RAM on what's essentially a high-end laptop running Windows is anything but "fine" Anno Domini 2017; you can saturate the 4GB by just browsing the web, somewhat depending on the browser.

Ram isn't a huge issue unless you're a power user. Battery life however is not great.

These are great, i just cant justify moving up, or sideways from my pro 3 though. Just bought the pro 4 keyboard instead, heat added.

Or use ibood and get double the R and sad, along with then pen for 869. This is supposed to be a power user device so agree with others that 8gb is a must.

They only ever have deals on the lowest specs. Which is ridiculous, given that doubling the RAM and SSD usually already costs an arm and a leg (300 pounds for something that is worth maybe 50), but now the difference is even bigger.

Sorry, I still cannot recommend this machine, because the specs are marginal.

I've been looking thoroughly for a "2-in-1" laptop for work.

The surface SP4 is generally the best, but has a hefty premium on it. 4GB of RAM is under my minimum, I use almost 4GB just browsing, I'd like a bit of headroom for the future.

Also SP4 is a bit dated, no USB-C port like all the other "competitiors" (read: copy cats). SP5 will be out soon, so I'll wait to see what that is like. If it's not good, I think I'll go for the Acer Switch 12 Alpha, cheaper and feature rich. Slightly less high quality than the SP4, but I'll happily save £200-£300 for a less premium feel.

Right now I'm driving 3 monitors, have dreamweaver, SQL server, logmein, IIS, chrome with several tabs and outlook open and I'm using 3.3gb of memory.

Got this for the wife before xmas (for a lot less) and its spot on. If you're running in to limitations on 4gb you've bought the wrong kit anyway.

These really are incredible bits of kit and such a pleasure to use.

Only thing that prevents it achieving perfect status is the relatively poor battery life.

But very much worth the money. (I have the 8GB version)

Windows 10 need more years to be proper tablet operating system + not many apps you have
Windows 10 can be super fast operating system, but if you do not have any apps to offer The all point to have touch is pointless

Im not saying that Android will replace your PC no I have Destop PC where is all my works done . I can imagine some student do not have options to have Desktop PC so they need something small

Of course this is using a laptop as a "desktop replacement" with (frequently) a full sized monitor and keyboard. Perhaps if a Surface Pro is typically used more like and iPad then 4Gb might be mostly OK.

Erm, try opening Google Maps, and then browse around using StreetView, while having a few more tabs open, and let's see how that 1gb copes then :wink:

I have used one since vista. I have an iphone, so I am not an Apple hater. Just not such a big fan boi as you is all.........obvs.

People worry about ram, these computers have flash storage so the os is optimised to switch between ram and flash, I personally don't have issues with 2gb of ram in my laptop

SQL 2014 standard. I have a couple of 3gb MDF sized databases, some tables with several million rows. I imagine if I did some huge inner join I might run have issues on 4gb, but I have a dedicated server for testing large queries.

Not bad you got 2014 standard onto 4GB - just recommendations at 2016 Microsoft give make it little less feasible and of course had twigged you couldn't be using the advanced features such as reporting etc on there :smiley:
Like you if buying for wife 4gb would be fine for her use and in situation with full connectivity situations using as a client is fine. Although, as a portable device, in remote locations situations (not that I would ever have been sat in front of a swimming pool working) I find having the better specified version enables me to have better contingency especially with hyper-v on offer.

So why would you use Chrome then? /facepalm

Using maps as an example, that's like saying you need to get somewhere in a hurry and have two options, a quick way and a slow way. You'll take the slow way then complain when your late...

As I said previous, if you can't browse the Internet on a 1GB tablet, the problem isn't the tablet.

I agree that 4GB is poor for the price; I chew through memory when using firefox with allot of tabs open.

Hey all. I've seen few comments here with people who own one of these or an earlier version. Could you tell me what the pen is like with them? I mean in real terms, not the marketing patter. Does it work well, would it be feasible to use it instead of a dedicated gfx tablet? In Photoshop or Affinity or similar? Or is it basically a handwriting tool?
