Textbook trolling in this thread, fantastic. Like a masterclass
I had a very similar journey and evening to you. I own a cardboard and Gear VR, was surprised at the quality leap between Gear VR and PSVR I found last night. I bought VR Worlds, Rush of Blood, Driveclub (didn't arrive - thanks Tesco!) and Super Stardust but didn't get around to playing any of them, such was the quality and quantity of the demos and freebies available. I especially enjoyed Tumble VR which allows very intricate/delicate movements with the dual shock, and whatever the little platformer subgame is with the Move VR freebie.
I think a lot is down to expectation. I'm 39 and a lot of people I know have gone through a similar backlog of equipment e.g. Spectrum -> C64 -> Master System -> Megadrive/SNES -> Amiga -> PS1/N64 -> PS2/Xbox/Gamecube -> PS3/Wii/360 etc etc. so what these modern VR systems offer is fairly magical in comparison.
Biggest differences for me with the PSVR over the Gear VR were the proper head tracking - meaning you can get up close to /examine around objects in game (or peer over the diving cage/through doors into creepy rooms etc), much reduced screen door effect, no overheating/fogging and just a generally crisper display. A lot is down to the content as e.g. the 360 videos I tried last night just look rubbish, but a well thought out game/experience built ground up for VR and bearing in mind current technical limitations is fantastic. I used it for nearly 4 hours straight last night - even if I wanted to do that with the Gear VR (which I wouldn't, for comfort/boredom reasons) my phone would have run out of battery or overheated after 30 mins as usual
EDIT: Forgot to add, I think this indeed the start of the future of gaming/entertainment. It's not that much of a leap between these systems and something like The Matrix, given a few decades development. If you showed a Vive to an Atari 2600 owner in the late seventies I'm sure his mind would be well and truly blown.

Why do you care so much? You don't think it's worth it - fine, move on and let those who do enjoy it.
I would counter your argument though, perhaps the PSVR isn't the Rolls-Royce of VR but given that we have Facebook putting $250m+ into Oculus, HTC, Steam, Sony and most probably Microsoft investing in platforms, it's certainly not going anywhere in the next few years at least. Fad or not, it's impressive, getting attention and people find it an enjoyable experience so who really cares either way.

To those thinking about getting this - it's superb just get it. Ignore the idiots that say things like juddery frame rates and looking like a dork. It works perfectly well with PS4 and will look even better with PS4 Pro - but you don't need the Pro, seriously. When seated correctly, there is no blur.
To those that don't like the idea of PSVR - get lost and start up your own hate thread somewhere else. You have no doubt not even tried it out. VR is not a fad.

I tried PSVR though in London and it was ****, the resolution was so low, everything looked blurry... I don't get why you'd want to play games like that when you can play them on a nice crisp 4K TV/Monitor. Like seriously try to watch video in VR it runs at like 540p or something stupidly low, you see jaggies everywhere... didn't sell me at all. The thing needs to be like 8K before I'm taking interest... plus the games I tried all sucked, Batman was crap, this deep Ocean one was crap... they were all like 5 min things you throw away.
On top of that the motion sucked, if you put your hands infront of the headset it lost tracking and then you felt sick. If you turned around it lost tracking and you felt sick, in fact if you stayed still it wouldn't track right and your hands would move all over the place and you felt sick.
It was really bad and tbh I tried Gear VR that my friend has and another friend bought the Vive, never used it and sold it on eBay lol.
VR is the next Wii, it's some fad that dies very quickly once people get bored of Wii Sports.... sadly though VR doesn't even have it's Wii Sports yet.

PlayStation VR is honestly the single most impressive thing I've played since the first 3D game... I'm blown away

:0 Nooooooo!!!!!!!!! So I'm now basically £400 down then? the problem I have is that I already have a MASSIVE 'yet to finish/even start' pile of games and getting VR before Christmas would be crazy.. However the scratching has now begun! :/

You'll need a playstation camera. The move controllers aren't needed for every game but it's advisable to get them too.
