In case anyone who just bought their first xbox gets excited.
Collect the serial numbers for your original Xbox One console, Xbox One S console and Kinect sensor. If you plan to trade in your original Xbox One console, it's crucial you collect the original console's serial number beforehand.
Contact Xbox Support and request your free adapter. You'll be asked to hand over your three serial numbers, so make sure these are nearby.
Around 14 days after receiving confirmation email of despatch.

Excellent - thanks for posting op. Despite old threads regarding this I wasn't aware. Got onto chat and had a very friendly advisor - took about 5 minutes. Well worth doing. Thanks again

They need the serial numbers from your xb1 s console, xb1 console and xb1 kinect to be eligible.

There's no adapter for that. The Xbox 360 Kinect is not compatible with Xbox One or One S.

I didn't have the xbox one serial and they did it anyway  because I traded it in.. since found the box with the serial and also the game receipt when I traded also had the serial on it too

I didn't need all 3 serial numbers, they only asked me the serial number of the Xbox one s. I did it via the support web chat section on the Microsoft site

Could you post or pm a link? I would like to get an adapter but being a bit cheeky as I don't have the Kinect but might well pick one up one day when they are cheap enough to see what all the fuss is/was about so obviously would want to be able to plug it in!
