After failing to get in for a good few hours earlier today, I managed to get some game time from 2am-4am (my sleeping pattern is screwed).
Overall, it's not bad, but it's not great either. If it wasn't for the beta I probably would have ended up purchasing it. Now? Definately not.
1. It's the same old run and gun scenario, and objectives are the last thing on the majority of players minds. I would have preferred it if they set up a deathmatch, or team deathmatch as that's what's going on at the moment.
2. The weapons, whilst being locked until you earn rewards, are too cartoony for my liking. I remember when COD1 / UO first came out, and the realistic sounds, recoil and such from weapons like the Kar98 were spot on. These Battlefield 1 weapons are a joke, and incredbly difficult to master for some reason. I ended up sniping most of the time. It's the same old story. You need to be in someone's face to kill them CQB style.
3. The planes are just a disaster. The old BF2 planes / choppers were much more enjoyable than this. Hell, even the desert combat mod for the original was better than this. VERY hard to control the planes. Flew 3 times, crashed each time.
4. Team chat is almost non existant. You can press the K key to chat but nothing comes up on the screen. If I press it again, it shows up briefly, but it would be much nicer if you typed and it was shown on screen. I never once saw any replies on my screen to convo's I made. Really, really stupid.
I won't go into it anymore, but it's definately not for me. I really wanted to like it, but I got so **** off with it, I just turned the computer off. I'll uninstall it when I wake up. I thought EA would have changed a few things but it's just BF4 with a new skin.

Agree, its the same on PS4 still more fun than any post COD 2 offering (this may get the COD kids dummies out sorry). Hopefully they will improve it the same way they did with BF4 - like all modern games these days. Marketing benefits of patching

This may seem silly but do you need PSN+ to play it or is it like Doom where you can play online without it

This is commonly the case with Battlefield games when they first come out and after a few major updates after they have refined it and got public data off forums they turn it into a great game. I hated bf4 when it first went beta but now i like it

Wow - someone who feels the same about the BF franchise as me! BF2 was sublime, BF1942 a game-changer (no pun intended), as was Codename Eagle before that. For me, the BF franchise died at BF3, the last version I played which to be fair was a fun game. CoD/UO were massive in the day and I still occasionally play now, great fun. BF for me now is the same as CoD is - frequently churning out a new version to keep the cash cow alive. My FPS of choice is now Red Orchestra/Rising Storm which graphically isn't as good as BF (but still decent), but the gameplay is deep and if you can get on a server with good team players, makes for a very rewarding game. There is also a Vietnam release coming for it soon (Rising Storm 2). I won't be trying BF1, each to their own but from what I've seen it's not for me.

BF2 is 11 years old, and is in all the ways that matter, a better game than all that followed.
Sad state of affairs :disappointed:
Is this game still doing nothing but lip service to the ww1 theme?

Tried it, hugely disappointing. BF has gone downhill since 3.

Free trial to justify that my Argos COD IW misprice purchase was a winner? Yes please! :sunglasses:
But on a serious note, I know they're completely different styles of games. Being a COD 2 and COD WAW fan (and old Battlefield games too) I was actually hoping EA hit a home run on this but from the comments it looks like it hasn't. Oh well. Maybe it will be better when I actually buy it for ~£10 after all the patches. The games industry must be taking a hit on this late patching strategy surely?

Objectives aren't important to most it seems. I was sat in a light tank in Rush defending an outpost. Got 24 kills in the end because all the other team wanted to do was sit back and snipe.
So I just kept picking them off and they couldn't do anything to me.
And when I try and use the Medic class, the skip revive doesn't encourage you to revive anyone as they just want to get back in the action, and the health indicator is incredibly small! I just throw out bandages left right and centre hoping someone needs it.
Enjoy it but it is the same old format which for someone like me with short attention span can get boring very quick.

Like Battlefront.
