I posted this originally as a deal but it got moved to misc, however, since things are often missed there I have just included freebies for over 60’s in this post.
The in-laws are turning 60 soon and were not aware of some of the discounts available to them so in case others do not know or just need a reminder I have compiled a few. These are discount cards and passes you can obtain for free if you are older.
B&Q – 10% off on Wednesdays with card free for over 60’s. You need to apply for a free B&Q club card (formally separate as a diamond card) details on their website http://www.diy.com/diy/diamond-club/ currently when applying you get a voucher for £5 off a £50 shop if you are new to the B&Q club.
Free bus pass – Free but the age requirement varies, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland it is 60 and for England it is female state pension age (regardless of gender). Free off-peak travel 9:30am – 11pm Monday-Friday and all day on weekends. https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-elderly-person-bus-pass
60+ London Oyster – Free but you need to live in a London Borough. This is for people who do not qualify for a freedom pass. NHS Prescriptions - Free prescriptions for the over 60's just tick the box on the back of your NHS prescription. This also extends to "minor ailments" which means you can get some OTC medicines free from participating pharmacies but this is area specific http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcosts/Pages/Prescriptioncosts.aspx.
There are many other attractions that do 60+ discounts or free access (occasionally 50+) such as gyms, swimming pools, cinemas, theatres, theme parks, football club memberships, insurance and restaurants and so it is always worth carrying proof of age e.g. a driving licence and asking for any discounts, just like the students.

Totally forgot about prescriptions. There is also a scheme called "minor ailments" where you can go to your normal pharmacy and you can get over the counter medicines free too (this is not only for over 60's but everyone who get free meds). This varies between areas but very handy for the upcoming hay-fever season.

Odeon, vue and others do senior/silver screenings of movies for older people, from 55 @ £3 a ticket, as well as a cuppa and biscuits before the film starts for free.
Also, for any that are hard hearing, they offer induction loop necklaces for T mode on earing aids.
