Just checked the Chromecast Offers app after buying a new Chromecast and saw four offers available:
Free £20 Credit if you've just bought a Chromecast
90 Days Free Google Play Music Subscription
2 Month Free NowTV Pass
Free Movie Rental via Google Play Store
I've been able to add in both the free £20 and the Free Movie rental!
To check if you've got it too:
Open the Chomecast App
Select your Device
Click on the Settings button and then 'Check for Offers' and it will take you to a page showing what you're eligible for.
This is *NOT* for the Audio version of Chromecast, it's for the HDMI version!

You can spend it on anything that Google play offers.
It's not because it's a launch version, it's because it's meant for the non-audio version!
I have a non-audio launch version and this worked fine for me. I now have £20 credit in my Google play!

I've done that before, just stopped the auto renew in the account I have now. Once it expires, open the chromecast offer and it'll add in the free pass onto your account

if tghis is first time you've paid (i.e. after trial) you can cancel as you get 14-day cool off period.
