I wasn't aware of this, others may not be. You can use your debit card from any bank to pay in and withdraw cash from the post office. I knew many withdrew using the debit card but i did not know you can pay in also. You no longer have to go into a main bank branch.
This can save time and money if you have to pay for parking etc especially with many local branches closing so especially useful for the elderly.
Customers will also benefit from longer opening hours and more than 4,000 branches open on Sundays.
Just go into your local post office

Thanks OP. So I can bank a cheque via the post office using my debit card, is that correct?
Edit: Just checked, for HSBC, need paying in slip and envelope from post office.

I am with Barclays and tried to cash a cheque with my debit card in local Post Office -- they told me they don't provide that service. Not even sure if all P.O.s provide the banking service, as ours didn't seem to know anything about it.

Yep First Direct same
they provide special envelope and you can bring ur own paying in slip or they give a blank one to fill out.
this method is not good, it takes about 100% longer for a cheque to clear your account than paying it in over HSBC counter.
last time I did it at P Off it took so long to show I rang the bank to ask if there’s a problem!
Its crap to be honest..

How long does it take to reach your account? Is it straight away or next day?
Thanks

The Co-Op bank supplies me with special envelopes to deposit Cheques at the Post Office, put cheques and paying in slip in envelope and they give you a receipt , job done nice and easy, saves a long trip to the bank.
