I got this... good coffee, just wish it was a bit warmer

I make mine as a strong espresso shot (or two) and top up with very hot water. I find I get a better taste this way as well.

On the esam 4200 you can do this, maybe same on this model With
the machine in standby/off mode, press and hold the One cup button
until the row of lights come on below. You should see the default of 2
lights is showing. Now press the two cup button repeatedly to select
your desired setting out of a possible 4 settings. When set, press the 1
cup button again to save your setting, and the machine will go back to
off

Me too, so I make the drink stronger add the milk then pop in microwave for 1min, works a treat. Great machine

Yeah, I find I'm making 3 shot espresso for the ideal mix but I'm sure the doctor would disagree

This is THE major drawback with this machine. The stainless steel top does NOT HEAT up any cups placed upon it and is for design purposes only. This machine is only good for lattes and cold coffee IMHO.

Got one last year from Argos for about this price. Awesome bit of kit. I don't use the frother though.

Put the kettle on before you start and heat the cup with boiled water before you run the esproesso into it!

I have a previous version of this, so don't know if it'll work on yours, but I just give it a shot of hot water from the frother wand, without setting the steam setting. That tip was in my instruction book.

Yeah, but it's a PITA and even then doesn't result in a hot shot.

Absolute rubbish, if you set it to 4 instead of the 2 it comes out of the box on it'll produce a double shot at exactly the temp it's supposed to be. You're probably used to overheated coffee!

So we had this at work...I used the espresso setting so it was quick, then added hot water from a zip tap...wish I had this super handy set up at home lol Edit. Voted hot, it wasn't quite this model, maybe one or two up from here, but our office one got hammered daily and rarely broke down

Yes - my office machine (a 4200 which is basically the same machine as this - the numbering convention makes no sense...) has been in for a year. It gets absolutely hammered and has probably seen several years of equivalent home use. Loads of the staff use it and it simply hasn't missed a beat.
If it did ever break down I would get it repaired and if it couldn't be repaired I would definitely be buying another one. If you do a bit of Googling Delonghi have a fantastic reputation for coffee machines. I would recommend them to anyone.

Bought this last week fantastic with beans, you don’t need to add hot water tho just turn the dial to make a larger cup job done, prob get 25 cups from a £2.50 bag of beans so saves money in long run

I've had the 4200 for almost 10 years now pulling 4 double espressos daily, cracking machine, best bean fo cup machine ever.
I wonder if DeLonghi intended to make the ever lasting coffee machine......?! I would of quite happily brought another one after 5 years if it had broke.

Had any problems with coffee grounds being spilled inside the machine? Mine's 5 years old and has started doing this. Not a huge problem, but a bit annoying.

Yeah it's been doing it for a whilst, just give it a clean every couple of weeks with a cloth
