Phoned three to cancel my cuurent 1 month rolling contract (£12p/m 8gb, unlimited minutes & texts) and was offered a three essentials plan for £15pm, 30gb data p/m, unlimited minutes & texts with Go Binge. No hotspot or use in Australia or America, but I don't need those in the next year so have saved £3p/m for a similar offer on the Advanced plan.

What, you mean they can't retain you as a customer if you're not already a customer?

No, but worth thinking about whenever you come near to the end of your contract whoever you are with.

True, but always worth noting you can haggle with your current provider. Don't take their first offer.

Three is just killing the market, EE and Voda need to bloody compete with these packages coming out every day.

I'm with 3 so I'm on board but find coverage erratic.

Me too, and the call centres are useless.

I'm with 3, have been for nearly 2 years but out of the cities/towns, the signal strength suffers compared to EE/O2. Think I'll be moving to EE next purely from a reception viewpoint.

Moved to plusnet who piggyback ee from 3 .Got to say I've found coverage to be no better than 3.In fact slightly worse.I travel daily around north wales ,Manchester ,Merseyside .I moved for exactly the reason you are thinking but seriously considering going back to 3.

Interesting as I'm moving to that neck of the woods towards the end of the year. Hmmm, I may hold fire before jumping away from 3 then. I do enjoy the Feel At Home though, and with a US trip on the horizon, it may be good to stay for a while longer. Thanks for your input there @rickj

I've done the same as you, live and work in south Manchester and the signal is similar to how it was with 3 but the 4g seems faster. Only a month by month sim with plus net so not sure if and when I will cancel to go back to 3 yet.
Wonder if ee would be better than both... But no decent sim deals about

Three have been the best reception in the Anglia area for me out of Vodafone & O2.

Three also do fairly good 1 month rolling contracts, so might be worth a try. Then you can chop & change when better offers come up.

My basic Three contract comes with wifi calling. Its a life saver as reception in my apartment is awful

Just checked three website & you are right. Must have just been added for me as part of the retention deal. Main point is is always haggle as they are desperate to keep your custom.

They weren't desperate to keep my business after 6 years. Only offered the same deals that new customers could get, moved to EE.

What happens after 12 months? Do you get moved to another (more expensive) tariff?

You stay on the same deal, unless you change tariffs.

Who knows. Better deals are always offered. The question is is "when the UK leaves Europe will our phone plans go up".

Hopefully not in the case of Three who have been offering cheap contracts, call charges and free roaming well ahead of various EU rulings.

You get hotspot & feel at home with three's advanced plan... it's just the essential plan where you don't get either.
