Phoned three to cancel my cuurent 1 month rolling contract (£12p/m 8gb, unlimited minutes & texts) and was offered a three essentials plan for £15pm, 30gb data p/m, unlimited minutes & texts with Go Binge. No hotspot or use in Australia or America, but I don't need those in the next year so have saved £3p/m for a similar offer on the Advanced plan.

No, but worth thinking about whenever you come near to the end of your contract whoever you are with.

True, but always worth noting you can haggle with your current provider. Don't take their first offer.

I'm with 3, have been for nearly 2 years but out of the cities/towns, the signal strength suffers compared to EE/O2. Think I'll be moving to EE next purely from a reception viewpoint.

Moved to plusnet who piggyback ee from 3 .Got to say I've found coverage to be no better than 3.In fact slightly worse.I travel daily around north wales ,Manchester ,Merseyside .I moved for exactly the reason you are thinking but seriously considering going back to 3.

Interesting as I'm moving to that neck of the woods towards the end of the year. Hmmm, I may hold fire before jumping away from 3 then. I do enjoy the Feel At Home though, and with a US trip on the horizon, it may be good to stay for a while longer. Thanks for your input there @rickj

I've done the same as you, live and work in south Manchester and the signal is similar to how it was with 3 but the 4g seems faster. Only a month by month sim with plus net so not sure if and when I will cancel to go back to 3 yet.
Wonder if ee would be better than both... But no decent sim deals about

Hopefully not in the case of Three who have been offering cheap contracts, call charges and free roaming well ahead of various EU rulings.

i can start haggling for stuff like this from tuesday. i'm paying them £12 for AYCE Mins & Texts and 12gb of data at the moment so we'll have to see.
ideally i wouldn't mind a new handset but that might be a bit pricey

30 Sep 17#30
I tried to see if I could get the s8 at a decent price, but three weren't so hot on that. SIMO on the other hand was much better. Ask to cancel your contract & get through to the disconnections team as they have the better offers. I just asked for 30gb at £15 & that worked.
HankHandsome to gtsteel
30 Sep 17#34
that's the plan, but I want to have a few offers ready to throw at them as well. in a perfect world, I'll be able to get 10-20gb for a tenner a month.
that said, I'm actually in no major hurry to re-up the deal either so I might even wait until black Friday in November and see if anyone comes up with something interesting.

Check out reply below. £60 difference per year on my plan.
rsh1: I got 200 mins, unlimited text, 30G advanced plan for £10 a month. This was after numerous calls, complaints, showing unhappiness, getting PAC code twice over the last 2 months. To be honest their CS is sh*t in general and they wouldn't budge on anything. It was the customer complaints team who did it for me.
HankHandsome to gtsteel

thanks for that, but I do also need unlimited minutes as well. i'm one of the 'old school' who actually uses a mobile to actually talk on rather than play games and stream things
as i said, i'm in no hurry to re-up at the moment so i can wait and see. three have said that my monthly price won't increase after november the 3rd when it reverts to a 30-day rolling sim, so that's ok by me.

You can get this same package for £10 after cashback at mobilephonesdirect. It's £18, but you get £8 cashback for every month, paid after the 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th months of the contract.

Hustler1337 to dabe1971
3 Oct 17#69
I'm in the same situation, but the only way you could do this is to take out the contract separately with MPD and call Three to cancel your current contract and ask for a PAC code. Then, get a pay as you go sim with another provider and transfer your number to that sim. Once it's been transferred, ask for a PAC code from your PAYG sim provider and transfer it to your new Three contract with MPD. Bottom line, it's a hassle.

Regarding reception I drove from Newark to Worthing and back on Thursday. I streamed my favourite internet radio station all the way there and back and in the whole trip the signal dropped twice (the same spot both times).
I really have no issues.
Oh and I rang yesterday as my contract is up and they did me this deal but with the feel at home package so it was £18. We do need this as we go to France twice a year, America once a year and we are going to NZ as well next year.

As an exisiting customer you should be able to fairly easily get the same deal, but as an advanced plan (so tethering and more foreign destinations included) .. for 16/month.. It was that price for new customers last month (its gone up since to 18), so I rang up a week and a half ago and asked to be switched over to it (I already had it without go binge but was paying 24/mo), took 5 minutes with the first operator I spoke too.. no transfer to retentions needed.
Only problem is its 12 month.. Id have preferred to lock it in for 60 months at that price.
