I switched to a BT MSE broadband deal a few weeks ago and didn't realise that
you can get up to £300 of broadband and line rental early termination charges reimbursed in full to your BT account. I never saw this advertised and wasn't made aware by BT (no surprise there). So I gave it a go and BT have kept their word and credited me with £35. But obviously if you're locked into a deal and want to get out £300 is a great offer. It was just a simple email to their switching team with a copy of my final bill.

It got me thinking about checking the switching offers from other providers. No doubt there's more (and feel free to add) but here's a few I found. It would be great to have this in one place. Hope it saves you a few quid.

Sky. Claim up to £100. If you choose to switch your broadband, calls and line rental to Sky, you can receive up to £100 credit to your Sky account if your provider charges you to leave.

EE. Claim up to £50. If you're charged for leaving your current broadband provider early to switch to EE Broadband, we'll give you a £50 credit.

Edit - Removed Vodafone as several members have confirmed they no longer offer this to new customers.

I have been with BT for about 5 years and have found them to be like a cheating partner that you keep taking back no matter the lie. Every time I set up a new contract and agree a price for 12 months BT sneak it up. Each year BT say sorry and I forgive them but then they do it all over again.

I just had this argument with them. I got BT Sport "Free" for 12 months last November and in August this year they started charging me £3.50 a month for it. A bit ridiculous even having a contract if the small print says they can do what they want to the prices at any time.

Ended up taking a reduced price renewal and they gave me the sport for £1.75 a month for the next 18 months. Can't really fault the speed/service so wanted to stay with them.

This is so accurate!

Ive just gone to SKY and have realised how crap SKY tv actually is. The basic TV package is a waste of money as everything is locked, even most catch up tv i want to watch. Thinking about going back to that dirty old mistress again......BT

I was told if they up your bill above inflation then you can cancel without penalty, is this true? Virgin just upped my bill after only four months of a 24 month contract. Thinking I’m going to cancel and try and get a better deal, maybe go back to Virgin at a discounted rate.
Gary_Dexter to furbix
28 Sep 17 #79
You won't be able to leave Virgin then go back to them again - you will be classed as a returning customer not a new customer and won't be entitled to their discounted rates for new customers

virgin will also give you up to 3x your package value back as a credit. could be as high as £200 for some on high packages

For doing what? Switching to them from another provider?

The last time I spoke to someone from Virgin Media they told me they offer no reimbursement of credit for switching

Anything from Virgin? I joined Virgin media from bt and paid over £100 for early termination fee!
PKRichie
16 Sep 17 #39
For BT it applies to line rental and broadband early termination fees only, they won't buy out TV or mobile related charges.
Send a copy of the final bill to [email protected]bt.com within 2 months of the new service going live, they'll credit your BT account within 28 days

Had the exact same experience with Virgin. They sent me a letter saying my tariff rate would go up £3.50 and my introductory rate of £30 pm would go up to £35 essentially increasing my monthly cost by £8.50. So I called them up told them I would cancel and retentions put me back on the £30 rate for another 12 months. It's mental. Why bother, is it purely just to scam people who can't be arsed to make a 10 minute phone call? If it wasn't for BT Fibre being outrageously expensive compared to Virgin for half the speed I'd switch in a heart beat.

I'm just switching from origin broadband to EE fibre. They said they will pay early exit fee's up to £50. They won't put the prices up for the full 18 month contract and they guarantee at least 37 megabytes. No set up fee. Hopefully it all works out. And I use Netflix, now tv and catch up for tv.

This happens regularly ,and this is the latest one.
yes every time have to go through calling their CS,wait 24 hours for a call back, then they arrange for engineers visit which is another week of waiting, have to stay in,and they fix the issue until next time.
And there is no problem with wires etc ..

Swapping broadband providers is a regular occurrence nowadays. I'm currently on BT fibre but contract ends in 5 weeks so negotiating now. As usual every time you call they offer something different so you never know if you have their best price. I was going to try Virgin but I've seen a lot of comments about them increasing prices regularly. BT offered me fibre and line rental for 28.99 to stay with them for 12 months. Virgin want £31 fixed price for 100 meg BB only for 24 months but at the moment I'm very tempted for Vodafone £20 all in for 18 months which looks good.

No loyalty at all anymore. Does anyone know if I can let my current deal run out then resign upto bt to get the cashback from tcb? As it's cheaper than their renewal price they've given me

Are people still putting up with this crap after all these years?
Every single broadband provider has no basis whatsoever to charge you for leaving early.
They are all in breach of contract in many, many ways. They lie about charges, the service cover, the quoted download speeds, the crappy unreliable internet blah, blah, blah.
Just tell them, your not happy you have given them the opportunity to live up to their end of the contract ( which they never will) and then just leave.
I swap between BT, Virgin, Sky...whenever i feel they are taking the pish.......SOD THEM!
They all know they are ripping you off on service and speeds, do not let them get away with it.

Wow that sucks, effectively trapping everyone on a bad deal
stevenmcdowall39 to Demok
16 Sep 17 #27
I actually think this is false and here's why.

The exact same thing happened to me when i was putting in my postcode and exact address to check, it always came back that i couldn't have fibre because the exchange was full. So here's how it works, if you do the search by your landline number, it worked! clearly by looking at street address only it's like they're assuming you're new and the box is already full but by searching by your current landline number they realise that you would simply be switching.

I successfully switched from plusnet to BT last year after doing it by landline number when i'd tried the address search endless times and always told the box was full.

I'm almost certain you will be able to switch if it's done right because you're simply switching and already have a space in the box.

BT demanded the same. It's linked to in the original confirmation email, but the message is so long that Gmail actually clipped that from the message.

Since my ISP charges £10 less than BT every month for line rental, that £100 woould go very far; so I think I will stick with my current provider.

Plus, last time I was with BT, the line was up and down more often than a professional ladies knickers (average of over 7 days per year); my current ISP has had 1 day of down time in nearly 5 years, and THAT was caused by a BT engineer!!

A £30 fee for having broadband removed from a line is standard - charge set by BT Wholesale

You shouldn't get that charge if you're just moving broadband provider though (except if going to cable).

£100 account credit reimbursement, not as much as £300... probably because you pay only a small percentage on the monthly costs with the chosen subscribers service when cancelling early
