Bought this for my husbands birthday. Thought it looked cheap so thought I'd share. Enjoy.

Can't see it anywhere cheaper NEW like this. Usually retails around £50, heat added.
Welcome to HotDeals, where people find a way to s**t on your deals on everything apart from price. Hope your deal gets hot.

There's a reason this is cold, cheaply made badly emulated bag of crap. That new HD flashback one that ATGames made is supposed to be just as bad. For £39.99 you could get a Raspberry Pi 2 which would do this and 100 times more stuff.
That a good enough reason for a cold vote??

This is also made by atgames, all the sega stuff is.

Not really. By your knowledge, I should go vote cold on every single iPhone deal on the site because I don't like iPhones (regardless of price). If something is cheap and a "deal" (bare in mind, the site is called HotDeals), then its a Hot vote surely? NEEEEEEXT.

How is that a valid comparison? I phones are divisive due to personal preference but on the whole they are functional and work great.
This thing no matter how you look at it is poor, when compared to the likes of the NES Classic (setting aside the Pi2) as the emulation is really good, controllers are solid replicas of the he originals and it features HD input, whereas this does not. It has poor sound, very poor emulation, crappy controllers and while the nostalgia may get you for 20mins it doesn't dampen the fact that this is a poorly made product and the Mega Drive deserves better.
That isn't opinion it is simply fact. Check any review of the thing anywhere on the hehe net and the consensus is just that. I tried one at smyths in Bolton and thought it was awful.
Nah mate happy as Larry I am, I would just like to advise people to spend their hard earned money on something with a bit more quality.

HUKD isn't about the quality of a product, it's about the price comparison. This could be on sale everywhere at £50 and it could score one star in every review, it could be absolute dirt in quality but if one store sells it £10 cheaper than anyone else and the OP finds and posts it then it is a hot deal.
By all means great if you reply and inform everyone that a Raspberry Pi is better but to vote an item cold that you can't find cheaper just because YOU don't like it or have formed an opinion based on reviews is pretty sad.
i take it you don't own one, I assume your opinions are based on hearsay?

I hope people read what ristac is saying here. For the record, they're always based on Google. It will be completely based on reviews they can quote, then say they experienced it themselves to 'prove their point'. As a rule of thumb I only believe the reviews with "Approved purchase" next to it. I don't believe what people say on here, because hardly anybody will own one. The net is full of sociopaths. :joy:
I sure as hell don't own one of these, but I'm not going to pretend I do and give it a glowing report either. People feel the need to enter into a debate about other "better" products, and "why". They can argue until they're blue in the face, RetroPi is better (I have it) but its irrelevant. I have nothing I even need to prove, the price for this product is cheap. For those confused, I'm not saying don't share the information, I'm saying that it's a Hot price. People are voting cold, and I don't know whats so hard to understand. Meanwhile, I'm just going to sit and silently laugh about people posting the same information about RetroPi being better.. and STILL voting Cold.

It's not about the product, its about the DEAL. If you want to argue schematics, then how about that fact that people won't have the time to setup/configure or more importantly, the knowledge? Would it be cheaper to buy a RaspberryPi, then hire a technician to set it up? Would a friend want to download illegal ROMs? I have a Pi, but I'm not narrowminded enough not to see the uses for this. I think iPhones are inferior to Android, just like you feel this is inferior to the Pi. But despite everything you said, none of this even scratches the surface of my point. This isn't hotukopinions.com, judging from the 394 degrees I would say this is a "HotUKDeal" for this item, is it not?
It's not about the comparison, I think you're missing the point.

Sadly many people do vote cold on Apple deals by default on this site.

The main problem is, people make their own rules and minds up. They vote cold if they don't like the product, or even the poster themselves.
I would love to see a "reason" button for cold votes, with a multiple choice radio button where people HAVE to select a reason from a list. It would be interesting to see what % of people vote cold for the wrong reasons, or BS about finding it cheaper elsewhere. :joy:

Not really. To me it has to be value for money and just flat out worth owning too.

To be fair though he wasn't saying it was poor because he didn't like it but because their are flaws in the product...
A flawed product on sale is no more appealing than a flawed product at full price (to a point)

Not trying to be a smart****, but how can it be a hot deal if the product is not worth the price?
I mean from exp this product is poorly made and buggy as hell - if it was fit for purpose then the price is amazing.
As for raspberry pi route, I don't think it can be compared, as the customers will need some technical knowledge and will have to download the roms etc. So can't be compared.

Sure its junk, but doesn't fit YOUR expectations of the product. It performs its purpose, hence why its sold units. It doesn't really matter if some people don't want it, we're a community right? If you're a member of the community here are some likely scenarios.
A) All the deals are cold, so it won't pop up on popular searches. They don't look into it further on Amazon, but buy it at a further inflated price because of the 5 star reviews.
B) They find this thread, and know a good price from a bad one. But then they see our comments and learn what a piece of s*** it is. This is more useful information, EVEN if you still think its a bad price.
C) They find the thread, read the comments and buy it anyway.
Read the reviews, because between a few of you I've seen 1 old youtube video of one not working and a few bad articles around its original release. The rest is just people "claiming" to own it to jump the bandwagon, which I don't mind (its actually funny). Sure there will be a MINIMAL people that actually do own it, but it won't be any of you. :relaxed: Now there ARE multiple amazon reviews voting it 5 Stars here, so equally there reports from verified RECENT purchases saying it works and reports saying it doesn't. Nobody can categorically say ALL generations and EVERY device is a bag of s*** can they? People will still want to buy it, as much as it pains me to say it.
I'm hoping the controversy from all this will at prompt some sort of rules page. The biggest problem with this is there are no rules, so who really knows what we should be voting on? I would like to think people use this as a 'knowledgebase' of good and bad prices, and if this is the case, then voting cold on something because you don't like the product wouldn't really work. You're denying them visibility of a good price, you have to think of the people that want this.
Admittedly I shouldn't of said (or came across) as "this" is how you 100% should be voting. No matter how much I feel it is the best way to vote, this topic is entirely subjective. What you should of been saying is "kiss my subjective a**". I mean looking at the heat on this thing I was obviously quite convincing! I guess it was well played. But honestly, I will always sit by voting hot on a cheap price, no matter how many different ways its worded it to me.
On a sidenote, welcome to HotDeals! I'm flattered you registered a new account to reply to me, but just FYI, I am as stubborn as they come. (I'm not going to lie, you made me chuckle a little. Are you really going to try and convince me that you own this junk? I know its not relevant, but can please hear what you have to say about this. Your friend had it right?) :joy:

I thought the Atari Flashback was really good , I even compared it to my old original , which I managed to power up but could only find 2 cartridges sadly . This could be Retro heaven if you're prepared to make allowances after all they don't make things like they used too

And it's not made by sega and not a sega product. It's a bit misleading if I'm honest.

Not voting either way but I'll echo others in that it's a very bad emulator - the sound is out of tune and the channels are out of sync with each other. The gamepads use infrared so you need line of sight and you have to point the controller directly at the console all the time. If you think it's still worth £40, fair play to you but the poor emulation sullied the experience for me so I returned mine.
