Alternatively pay in dollars using a no transaction fee card like Halifax Clarity Card and $216.79 converts to £160.94 so a further £5.29 saving mastercard currency converter here mastercard.us/en-…tml

Why dont they add NFC, can't cost much, can it?

Because only very few people outside the US and UK use NFC.

It's meant to be a budget phone targeted for a specific market. NFC is more of a western market thing, so I believe they excluded it to save on costs.

They want to discourage first world countries from buying this, they'd rather you buy a Pixel 2 for £800.

Xiaomi couldn't give a toss whether western first-world citizens buy this or not but they don't have the marketing budget to compete in the likes of the UK and therefore don't really bother.

Looks a great phone, heat from me.

No NFC is a deal breaker for me, shame as it looks great otherwise. Heat added as deal if you don't need NFC.

What are people's experiences of Tomtop? Just wondering what the chances of customs intercepting it are? Also am I right in thinking that if paying by PayPal from bank account then only 0.5% transaction fee, and still protected by them if the phone doesn't arrive?

I have ordered from Tomtop before, works similar to Gearbest and other Chinese re sellers, takes about a week to arrive and protected by PayPal.
Haven't had any custom issues so far with them.

10/10/17 but take that with a pinch of salt. These Chinese sites are terrible when it comes to sending things which is why I usually opt with AliExpress, even when the cost is slightly higher.

Will this have Google play store installed? I had Xiaomi phone before had many problems installing Google play store on it.

This is like no other Xiaomi phone, this one has Stock Android (Vanilla) which includes all the Google Apps (playstore included). No Xiaomi MIUI. androidauthority.com/xia…64/

How ironic, some luvvvvvvvvvvv the MIUI interface that these Phones in particular come with ... (if some earlier prior HUKD 'comments' are anything to go by?).
Nice to also hear a different kind of swing on things ...

What is the main advantage of NFC? I have it on my phone now (honor 6x) but don't use it!

The huge advantage of NFC is that it allows Google/Apple to spy on everything you purchase using it, so allowing them to build up a profile on you and target you with ads, share this data with 'trusted 3rd parties' etc.

You can use NFC on Android Pay? I don't use it neither.

you should really give android pay a go. if you live in a settlement of any significant size (i.e. anything bigger than a village), you'll appreciate how convenient it is.
if you live in a moderately large town or ideally a city, you will find you will barely need to have your wallet with you, if at all. given the wide proliferation of contactless payments - shopping, purchases, transport, all covered by a tap of your phone without getting your wallet out. i lived in london a good few years without using my wallet at all - its strangely liberating.

I fully understand that tbh but I have a flip case with my wireless card in it, so I just tap the case :-)
