Nokia shot themselves in the foot with that price. £300 phone at most.

It's not Nokia though, it's HMD using the Nokia name.... Nokia are dead.

HMD is almost entirely consisted of ex-Nokia employees laid off by Microsoft. It's most definitely Nokia.

Is that a plus or a minus

Nokia dead? Tell that to the 100,000+ employees.

I was thinking that, but thought maybe I'm a bit out of touch with the deals lately. Just seems way too expensive to me, especially for a Nokia

It's got top quality specs, better than a lot of other flagship devices in fact so why do you think it's worth £300????

There are many other phones that are much lower in price and match or exceed it in spec, for example the moto z play and z2 play, the oneplus 3t and oneplus 5 (which is much much better), the s7 edge. There is literally no reason to buy the Nokia 8.

Literally only the OnePlus 5 has the Snapdragon 835 processor out of all of those phones. What is your idea of matching/exceeding in spec when none of those phones actually do so?

So you're just going to cry about chipset? The huge price difference does not justify a slightly newer chipset. Those phones I've listed do everything else better, yet you're just going to fixed on chipset? The difference in performance is marginal, all the phones I've listed perform extremely well and do not have stutters. At any rate you would have to be pretty silly to pick the Nokia 8 over the OP5.

Such aggressivity. The newer chipset allows for better battery consumption and the phone also possesses an excellent camera brand(having had Carl Zeiss camera on previous phones, they're awesome, hopefully Nokia will be able to keep it good and make it better with updates) ; also stock android allows for extremely fast updates the latest Android software, hopefully Oreo won't take too long to come on the Nokia. It also has a QHD screen, not everyone's cup of tea but as long as the battery follows I'm fine with that, even though I prefer full HD on phones.
In my opinion, the phone will be completely fine, and it's not that expensive. Taking away the price of the contract that you'll have to pay anyway, the phones ends up at probably around £450-500.

Isn't even Nokia. Some other company just bought the name and trying to cash in whatever reputation they have left.

It's not "some other company", it's Foxconn’s FIH Mobile. And foxconn is the contract manufacturer for almost everything you are using, mobiles, computers, laptops and TVs. So I think you are in safe hand.
Think about Dopod before HTC.

Who cares? Did you panic when you found out Tim Cook doesn't actually build every iPhone himself? I was bitterly disappointed when I saw the Google Android figure doesn't actually live inside my phone

I wish Nokia included the 41 megapixel sensor...which I still feel is top quality...this is the first picture someone took on Reddit:

In delivery details it says phone box seal may be broken to do the quality check. No need to contact for this reason. Does this mean that phones may be second hand or almost new or like new or nearly new (all these terms are being used now days)

No, you are buying a brand new phone.

Any particular reason why people think this is too expensive? Specs are up there with most flagships and the reviews are positive. Certainly isn't a mid-range phone so why should it be mid-range price?

Yeh i was thinking this too, snapdragon 835, 4gb ram. Same as the rest pretty much.

The price you pay is for spec plus brand value. In this case the brand value is in negative for most people. I sold an iPhone 6 for 300 the other day after 2.5 years. This phone will have no value after 2.5 years as things stand today.

I know what you're saying with respect to losing value. You lost £300 in only 2.5 years with the Iphone 6. If Nokia/HMD provide good support with updates, the loss on this phone will probably be slightly more. On the other hand, if Nokia are awful with updates, this phone will be down to under £100 in 2.5 years.
The only phones that don't really lose value are the good spec phones at budget prices. If you buy this P8 Lite 2017 for £140, in 2 years time it will be still worth £50 meaning a loss on only £45 per year.

The review I've read of it says it does nothing better than the oneplus 5 which is a bit less than it, and is a lot worse than the galaxy phones that are priced at a bit more. If you're desperate for a Nokia phone then maybe, but otherwise why would you buy this?
