There are many other phones that are much lower in price and match or exceed it in spec, for example the moto z play and z2 play, the oneplus 3t and oneplus 5 (which is much much better), the s7 edge. There is literally no reason to buy the Nokia 8.
DevilWithin to ApolloVirtue

Literally only the OnePlus 5 has the Snapdragon 835 processor out of all of those phones. What is your idea of matching/exceeding in spec when none of those phones actually do so?
ApolloVirtue to DevilWithin
2 Sep 17#54
So you're just going to cry about chipset? The huge price difference does not justify a slightly newer chipset. Those phones I've listed do everything else better, yet you're just going to fixed on chipset? The difference in performance is marginal, all the phones I've listed perform extremely well and do not have stutters. At any rate you would have to be pretty silly to pick the Nokia 8 over the OP5.

Such aggressivity. The newer chipset allows for better battery consumption and the phone also possesses an excellent camera brand(having had Carl Zeiss camera on previous phones, they're awesome, hopefully Nokia will be able to keep it good and make it better with updates) ; also stock android allows for extremely fast updates the latest Android software, hopefully Oreo won't take too long to come on the Nokia. It also has a QHD screen, not everyone's cup of tea but as long as the battery follows I'm fine with that, even though I prefer full HD on phones.
In my opinion, the phone will be completely fine, and it's not that expensive. Taking away the price of the contract that you'll have to pay anyway, the phones ends up at probably around £450-500.

Ahhh, the Nokia N95 perhaps one of the best phones I ever had :sunglasses: ... In the market for a new phone soon currently on a Nexus, considering I paid about £150 for it, not sure why I would want to send many more £££s on a 'better' phone. Seems as fast if not faster than most phones, way better than my works iPhone. The only thing I really miss is a good reliable camera for all conditions, camera is not as good as my Z3 Compact, and the Z3 Compact had low light issues.
I would consider Nokia again if they were robust and with decent camera.

S8 is £90 more on same contract (was only £55 more until yesterday) but with a free Gear VR. Touchwiz isn't too bad anymore, you can replace most of the weak stuff.
HTC U11 is like £520 Sim Free (which is only £20 more than the Sim Free cost of this).
N8 and E-PH-1 are both far too expensive for what they are, the EPH1 especially as the camera is terrible.

It looks to be similar on paper. I can't give a proper opinion of the essential phone though, as I haven't yet had the chance to use one. I can't really comment on the value for money either, without knowing the UK price.
Although given that its $700 in the US, it's likely to be priced at around £600 in the UK. Which doesn't strike me as being great value for money, especially considering its their first phone release.

Microsoft bought the Nokia phone business and the rights to use the Nokia name, HMD assumed that business after Microsoft dumped it. HMD have an agreement with Nokia to use their patents and technologies and pay royalties to Nokia for them. HMD is led by former Nokia management and is staffed by many former Nokia staff. Their HQ is across the road from Nokia HQ. So, with so much of Nokia culture invested in it, they have a genuine claim to the Nokia name on the phones.
I would be interested if they did something innovative and not made just another Android phone.

The website of HMD Global if anyone is interested >
They might just be a one trick Pony. However the Nokia brand had a solid reputation. If you look back at some of the absolutely crazy phone designs they had 10-15 years ago, they were innovative or possibly just seeing what type of almost unusable design they could force on the public, the Nokia 7600 for one. There will be kids alive today using smartphones who don't know about or care about Nokia's heritage. HMD Global don't have a lot to play with, just a name really, unless they have a really solid team and are willing to lose money before they gain money.
androoski to fishmaster

HMD have access to big Nokia's folio of patents and technologies to play with, plus Nokia intellectual heritage through staff continuity and engineering input from big Nokia. So more than just a name.

At least the OS is Android and not Windows Mobile. The one thing Android lacks (in my opinion) is very well made hardware. Some of the Nokia Windows phones were absolutely spot on with their hardware so hopefully this will be good hardware and on a good OS.
fishmaster to msharif911

Android hardware has come on leaps and bounds. It absolutely does have very well made hardware to support it. The S6, S7 and especially S8 phones have really solid design build. Xiaomi have a selection of phones using ceramic. It all started with the HTC One (M7) in 2013 and progressed through Samsung Galaxy Note Edge in September 2014, and from the S6 onwards all higher end Samsung's had good designs and cutting 'Edge' screen technology. You have a look at the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 to be released in September this year and tell me that Android doesn't have really well made hardware. In fact as I stated it was back in 2013, and maybe there's an earlier example I'm forgetting. Apple started the really well made hardware (with a massive amount of design flaws, antenna problems, U2 IC problems, touch IC problems, the list goes on) thing 10 years ago. Some Android hardware has taken it beyond Apple.
TL;DR
Android most definitely has hardware which is very well made and here's an example from almost a year ago >
I'll add a little disclaimer; the Apple iPhone 8 will likely be right up there with the Samsung competition, and in fact will use screen technology from Samsung, idownloadblog.com/201…-8/
Apple will be using the best display panels already in use in Android phones for a number of years. I'm not getting in to the pros and cons of Apple versus Android, that's another discussion. This is just an illustration that it's false to believe that Android doesn't have cutting edge hardware and the build quality isn't up to scratch. The facts are it's probably got the best made hardware on any mobile platform currently.

Thanks for all that info. The last Android phone I had was a Samsung Note 2 and I thought the Windows phone work gave me had a better feel and build about it. I've since had only an iPhone 6+ and will be sticking with Apple for my next one too (most likely an 8+). Both have their benefits and drawbacks. I have had a good couple of years with my iphone and dont feel the need to change.

The review I've read of it says it does nothing better than the oneplus 5 which is a bit less than it, and is a lot worse than the galaxy phones that are priced at a bit more. If you're desperate for a Nokia phone then maybe, but otherwise why would you buy this?

The price you pay is for spec plus brand value. In this case the brand value is in negative for most people. I sold an iPhone 6 for 300 the other day after 2.5 years. This phone will have no value after 2.5 years as things stand today.
Masteryates to pcgamer2014

I know what you're saying with respect to losing value. You lost £300 in only 2.5 years with the Iphone 6. If Nokia/HMD provide good support with updates, the loss on this phone will probably be slightly more. On the other hand, if Nokia are awful with updates, this phone will be down to under £100 in 2.5 years.
The only phones that don't really lose value are the good spec phones at budget prices. If you buy this P8 Lite 2017 for £140, in 2 years time it will be still worth £50 meaning a loss on only £45 per year.
