Went into PC World today and they had the Surface Pro 4 i5 4GB ram and 128GB hard drive marked as £429. They are selling off the displays. I bought one, they then say it will take a couple of days as they re-format and get rid of the demo and PC World stuff. They had 3 at Highgate Birmingham, 5 in Worcester, 4 in Kidderminster, 1 in Solihull, so there seems to be plenty around. There is 1 in Selly Oak, the person I spoke with there said it was a demo only, but it isn't, it just needs to be set up. The keypad is not reduced or included. The pen is included, and it will come boxed. In Highgate they had them at full price, but confirmed it was not correct and lowered it to £429. Nationwide INSTORE ONLY Not listed online.
I contacted Microsoft otday via chat and can confirm that they ask for proof of purchase via email and then will restart the warranty.

Are these Surface Pros any better than the older models? I used to use one at work and it frustrated me endlessly, not fit for purpose and I couldn't understand the price.

They've been pretty fabulous since 3 imo What did you find frustrating about it? Still a little pricing normally but hey

It was awkward to use as a laptop because the keyboard and trackpad felt really cheap. It was awkward to use as a tablet because Windows doesn't work great on tablets. It couldn't make its mind up whether it wanted to be in tablet or desktop mode. Considering how much it cost I was expecting it to at least be powerful but it often lagged on basic processes. I ended up ditching it after a couple of months and reverting to the tatty old Toshiba laptop I had used before we got the Surface Pros because at least I was comfortable with it. We've since upgraded to some proper Dell laptops so don't have any issues any more.

Had mine i5 4GB since March and I've been impressed. I did buy a Brydge keyboard for it, but to be honest, it works just as well with the type cover. I use mine for 1080P video editing and it doesn't lag. Only issue I've had is the wife doesn't like how loud the keyboard is when typing

Ex display, surely the batteries would be knackered

I bought an ex-display Surface Pro 3 - for £400 from Currys, Boxing-day 2015.
I use it for work and at home, so very heavy usage.
I just checked the battery stats from recent charges. Until two weeks ago I was always getting 99-100% of the designed full charge. However this last fortnight there's been a 8% drop in maximum charge, which has sustained. Not sure why or if it's temporary.

No offensive but if you've been in Currys you will see how badly treated display stock is.

True, I went to a store with several, compared them and went for one that was on the side without the keyboard and looked in good condition. To be fair, I could not see anything wrong with the others either, and it is still under warranty.

I'll pop in to my local one tomorrow. My first gen machine needs replacing, so if they have one I'm definitely buying.
Cheers for the heads-up

Unless this includes a full warranty I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole. At least then you can return it to MS and get a properly refurbished model.

They told me it will have a full warranty, or else I wouldn't touch it either

Good upgrade. Don't worry about the type cover price either, I just posted a deal regarding how to get a cheap original type cover. Besides, you get a year long guarantee from Microsoft. I used a cheap charger and it fried my surface pro 4. Microsoft just replaced it for me. Was really pumped about that.

Few notes some may find useful as I bought a SP3 ex demo last year; -Yes they are allowed to sell it to you, 1 store tried telling me they weren't. -it's really easy to remove the demo mode yourself, you don't have to wait for them to do it. -when you come to register the product on your ms account it may say it's only got a months warranty or something, simply livechat ms support and they'll just ask for a copy of your proof of purchase and renew your warranty online.

I love my surface pro 4 I would definitely buy at this price and will pop in my 2 locals tomorrow as mine is the m3 version not the i5. I've had experience with ms returns and warranty claims on 2 band 2's and they have always been quick and efficient so I wouldn't be worried there.
