Would be REALLY interesting if they'd squeezed an n3450 inside, but the x5-z8300 is a bit underwhelming to be honest.

Can't help but feel the Atom's have had their day, sorry.

Absolutely agree, I stick with molecules these days as due to my age I require glasses to see atoms as they are so bleedin' tiny, like some peoples' minds!

ah if you can see atoms perhaps you can expalin the benefits of HS2; persoanlly I can't see any but I had'nt thought of looking at the moleucular level...

I nearly fell over after reading that. Looks decent for the price.

CPU is far too underpowered (though though not quite as bad as that 2gb Bay Trail laptop someone posted the other day). It's also an entry level Medion, so you're guaranteed crappy build quality.
£250 for this is poor value.

A little expensive for what it is, despite some nice features.
Strange that a new pre-order item should come with the Z8300 as Intel stopped manufacturing those quite a while back now in favour of the very slightly better Z8350, so either there are huge stockpiles of them or it must be the newer flavour.
Agree that at this price an Apollo Lake would have been a better choice.
Around 1200 passmark. Yeah a fast atom but not really a weak i3. More core 2 duo type performance.

I've got this processor in a tablet and it does run Windows OK. However, single core performance is poor, so older / badly threaded apps will perform badly.

I like atoms for their battery life. Have one in my asus t100 which I got from ebay for around 120 quid and battery life is around 9 or 10 hours. So depends what you want to do.

geekbuying.com/ite…tml This will be a lot quicker. Then either buy the proper keyboard for it or use a case with a bluetooth one. Before anyone says, but its from China, look at all the people here that have been merrily spending a similar amount on the 64gb Xiaomi note 4.

I know it's a bit of a daft question but what would I be better doing, getting a Chinese ultra, around same price, or this?
I don't use my hp much as it's too heavy to cart around and use a pc more at home.

I've ordered a Chinese Onda Xiaoma 21, which is a 12.5" (non-touch) full hd ultrabook at just 1kg. The Onda has a more capable Celeron n3450 processor which is around 70% more powerful. Cost was around £225.00 from Gearbest. Also ordered a 128GB SSD for it for another £38.00.
The other great option is the Jumper EZ Book 3 Pro which has similar spec to the Onda, with a 13.3" full hd screen and 6GB RAM rather than 4GB. It is a bit heavier though at around 1.3kg.
The two Chinese options will provide better value for money, but the Median comes with a long warranty (you won't get anything useful with the Chinese options). Also, the Medion has touch capability, although I'm not a fan of Windows as a tablet, personally.
The other option is the deal which was posted yesterday for the BBen laptop at Amazon, which looked similar to the EZ Book 3 and might provide a good compromise of performance and warranty.

It won't win any prizes for performance, but I think it's a fair price for the specification it offers - including being new rather than refurbished, and with a 3 year warranty.
The nearest comparison I can think of would be the Linx 12V64 tablet that Sainsbury's were selling for £199 at one point - but this Medion device has a permanently-attached keyboard that would be more suitable for casual (i.e. sofa-surfing) usage.

Yeap, its not to bad, cannot compare to a my laptop, but it seems to be well made and works for what my daughter needs it for. Just tried it last night and left it charging, so will have a proper go later on this week. Just need a mini-hdmi cable and a sleeve to go with it and she is ready for Uni.

sounds good, debating getting this as a video streamer/general purpose laptop/tablet hybrid
is the performance good enough for web browsing and video streaming? does all 4GB of RAM show up as usable?

I haven't had chance to check performance, as my daughter is using it and I have not had to do any tech support so far. will get more time on the weekend so will have a go then. but the screen is really good and its quick on startup. as for anything else. will let you know later.

This is now on offer at £199. Would this be a good choice for my 11 year old for school work or am I better off with something else?
