Looking for a cheap phone for my daughter to watch videos and play some games - are these any good? It's £75.43 on Geekbuying.com . Is this the same phone? Geekbuying says Official Global Version. I've never used GearBest

This phone is perfect as a main/spare phone or a phone for your daughter. Only things missing from this phone is NFC and a compass.

HI I got this for my dad and he was blown away (upgraded from a samsung young) when he took it to a phone shop in the city centre the man said he would recommend this phone to anyone and that xiaomi phones in general are for people who really know phones and are not just buying the brand.
also on the 26th July there is a launch event for the XIAOMI MI 5X and also MIUI 9

Breaking news for xiaomi fans the redmi note 5A to be unveiled on 21st August

It probably won't be out for at least 3 months, we had spec leaks for the Redmi 4 Prime from July 2016 and that wasn't released until November 2016.
Also
The Note 4 has a better camera (just) than the Note 3, I hope Xiaomi don't take advice from someone who thinks more megapixels means a better camera.
Yes the Chipset is weaker, but for most use cases it's not noticeable and the battery life is much better. If anything they should use the SD660 next which is the best of both worlds performance & battery wise.

That's not the Note 5, it's significantly worse than the Note 4 in every single way. That's just a larger Redmi 4A which is the worst model they make.

You know you can put multiple quotes in a single reply instead of having to make the same comment 4 times? That Redmi Note 5A is neither of those leaks you posted about on many different threads. The Note 5A's retail box< appeared last month with specs being predicted and recently popped up on TENNA< (happened to a lot of previous releases). It's more like a Note version of the budget Redmi 4A, rather than the successor to Redmi Note 4. Nothing further has come of those Redmi 5 and Note 5 leaks you informed people of and I'd be skeptical about them being real as they look more like fan generated renders but I guess time will tell.

I did not know about multiple quotes if what you say is right its a big disappointment and looking at the redmi 5 and redmi note 5 links i put up before the redmi note 5 in the photo's on them has a front fingerprint scanner whereas the photo's of the note 5A show it on the back like the photo's of the redmi 5 so you are probably right

17 Aug 17#41
Looking at the photo's in your TENNA link photo 2 shows back of phone with no fingerprint scanner, and photo 4 shows back with fingerprint scanner ? and the link with the retail box photo shows no fingerprint scanner on the back, and the specs differ from TENNA here is link to official release info today en.miui.com/thr…tml and all the photo's there show fingerprint scanner on the back.So confusing i suppose its best wait till 21st

You can also tag them instead with "@" followed by username. @BUCKUM2 . If you look at the 4th image of the Redmi Note 5 leak article you linked, notice how bad the linear perspective is. If you hold your phone with the front face in that same orientation, look at how much of the left side of the phone you can see. Now rotate the left edge towards you until it is in full view and see how different the perspective of the front is compared to the 4th image. Also Xiaomi official images tend to be realistic photo-like whereas those look rendered so I doubt either of those leaks in the links you put up are real.
If you read the Tenaa link text, it states there are "two major versions". Therefore there's probably a lower end version without fingerprint. Given that the Redmi 4A has no fingerprint when the Redmi 4, 4 Prime, 4X all did, it would fit that "A" phones are more budget orientated with lower specs and Xiaomi have a tendency to release multiple versions at once. Generally what appears on TENNA comes out later even though it might get mixed up with another speculated model. Here is the Redmi 4X< which GSMArena thought might be Redmi 5. Redmi 4 Prime< shortly before its reveal. And the China Redmi Note 4X 64GB Mediatek< which they didn't expect to be the Redmi Note 4X since it was already revealed as SD625 like the RN4 Indian variant.

I never said anything about what MPx camera it has or even said anything about what specs it will have? The only thing I spoke of in regards to specs was fingerprint when you questioned the differences in images. I was pointing out that the Note 5A is not the Note 4 successor since you were following up on the links you had posted previously. I said it popped up on Tenaa to show it's neither of those leaks.

I am not saying i was right just pointing out that tenaa had the camera spec wrong they say 13Mpx on front on the higher spec so they could be wrong on the rest too best wait and see. Does seam wasteful if it has 16Mpx & front led flash and only a sd430 soc maybe we will be surprised and it turns out to a surge 1 or even a new surge 2 soc

You're saying we're "both wrong", when I did not state anything to be the case in terms of specs whereas you had said "Redmi 5 will be launching soon here are the leaked specs". The Tenaa link in my initial reply is GSMArena's interpretation. If you read the article, they state Tenaa aren't specific and therefore they're guessing the SOC based on clockspeed. If you read when they're talking about camera, they do state the higher spec has 16MP and 13MP and have interpreted it as being 13MP front like most people would. However if the rear camera ends up being 13MP since the front is 16MP, it would be a case of misinterpreted specs. I said "Generally what appears on Tenaa comes out later". This is not 100% of the time but many previous Xiaomi phones have surfaced on Tenaa before official reveal< They are a regulatory certification system in China similar to FCC so it's not like it would be a fabricated or speculated leak.

No but you implied i was totally wrong in the links i posted which may well turn out that you are wright but do you honestly believe they are going to release a 5.5 screen @720 res with a 16Mpx front camera and front led flash and sd 430 soc and looking at the TENAA spec sheet here shouji.tenaa.com.cn/Mob…Mqh under camera they indicate 13Mpx and 5Mpx so something not wright

What is it with you regarding things being right or wrong? I said the Note 5A is neither of those detailed in your previous links and that I'm skeptical of those leaks being real, then gave reasons for my doubts. How is that implying you were totally wrong? Likewise you are skeptical about the Tenaa specs. However, I did not link the Tenaa article to state those were the specs. You didn't read the article properly did you? That Tenaa spec sheet you're pointing out is 1 of 4. All 4 are in the source links at the bottom and the article text says 4 models but 2 distinct versions and even mentions the other model being 13MP and 5MP.
I fully expect that if the actual specs aren't exactly as stated on Tenaa or if there aren't 2 versions, you'll be the first to let me know about how I was wrong even though "I did not state anything to be the case in terms of specs".

The specs were as shown on Tenaa but as I said, I did not state that would be the case. However, you said they were wrong about front camera, to which I pointed out, it was GSMArena's interpretation and that "they do state the higher spec has 16MP and 13MP but have interpreted it as being 13MP front like most people would. However if the rear camera ends up being 13MP since the front is 16MP, it would be a case of misinterpreted specs." As can be seen from the official spec for the higher model, it is 13MP rear, 16MP front so it actually was them misinterpreting the spec sheet. I also said GSMArena guessed the SoC based on clockspeed because Tenaa do not specify. They guessed a SD430 for higher model, but it was SD435 which is the exact same as SD430 except with higher X9 modem<

Yes your tenaa link was correct i bow down to your greater knowledge. Anyway what a load of crap 5.5" at 720 and terrible soc even the pricing when the exporters add their mark up it will be more like £125 instead of the £81 for the lowest model and £150 instead of £104 for the 3gb/32gb and probably £185 instead of £140 for the 4gb/64 at least for the next couple of months. I suppose the only positives is the dual sim and sd card tray. Dont know what their thinking is lately only the Mi6 has been a forward step in the last year, the note 4 was step down from the note 3 the Mi Max 2 was no better than Mi Max and the Mi 5x dont know what they were hoping for with that the note 4 is better value than that. any of the 5A come with band 20

Once again, I'll say "I did not link the Tenaa article to state those were the specs". It was you who started discussing them and doubting them. If you re-read my subsequent replies, they were just to point out things said in the article that you seemed to have not read properly but it felt like due to your doubts you were trying to deem them as being wrong whilst assuming I was coming off as if to say "these are the right specs" when it wasn't what I was doing. My initial reply was only to point out that it's not the successor to the RN4 and is neither of those leaked devices you linked previously.

I'm 95% sure I will be upgrading my Note Pro 3 to the Note 5 phone. Xiaomi should've put a SD652 CPU and improved on the 16MP camera in the Note Pro 3 in the Note 4 instead of putting in a weaker/inferior 13MP camera.

Just received this last week, so far I'm very impressed. It feels well built and solid despite being all plastic. Took a bit of getting used to MIUI, though it is very customisable ie restricting certain apps from using data, built in rules to put it on silent at certain times of the day etc I put NOVA launcher on it which I prefer. There's a fair it of "bloat" though which you can't uninstall / disable, unless you root it. Battery life seems very good Phone is very fast compared with my old Moto G second gen. Camera not so good though (ok outside, bit grainy indoors though the quality is set to medium by default, if you change it to hi res then then it does improve. Video is a bit of a let down in terms of audio though, but I was filming a noisy school hall performance! Overall very pleased with it, other than the lack of micro sd card slot if using dual sim (though as it's 32gb memory was able to get most my music vids phtos and apps etc on it and save about 3gb free for additional downloads etc. Used the standard free delivery and ordered on the 25th June, it arrived on 13th July so just under 3 weeks. You can pay to get it a bit quicker, though I believe that increases the chance of a customs charge. I bought a ZTE Blade A512 for my other half last month for £75 (inc £10 vodafone topup) plus a £1.29 fee for unlock, The redmi is in my opinion slightly better than that having dual sim and more storage and bigger battery, it's slightly smaller but not quite as thin as the ZTE though, and that was a bargain also (they are £99 + £10 topup now)
