I've bought 2 sets of these in previous deals and all 4 talk together faultlessly. Pretty decent speed and have given me no bother at all. One of the kids uses one on her gaming PC and no complaints. Handy having the passthrough port.
Details:
* Extremely fast speed - up to 1200 Mbps (obviously take that with a pinch of salt) * Connect multiple adapters to expand your gigabit wired or Wi-Fi network reliably * Multiple data streams (MIMO) with beamforming technology offer improved coverage throughout the home * Setup in minutes, no need to configure or install software * Provides an extra outlet and improves the overall powerline network performance * Encrypts powerline network connections with the touch of a button * Automatically powers down when not in use
Great deal and ordered to add to my current setup, I've been using these for while and they have been excellent.

As is often the case with Homeplug gear, is the quoted 1200 Mbps a total of up AND down capacity on these?

As is always the case with these you'll never get any where near 1200Mbps. 'Tis but a pipe dream.

Daft question: one of these goes near the router, i get that - but if i the other one of these in the room where i dont get wifi, does this turn it into a hotspot?

No this is for a wired connection, Amazon description tells you all you need to know. You maybe able to plug in a router as an access point for WiFi though. Failing that maybe look at the wireless version of this product

Can I use these with my existing Comtrends? Is it possible to mix and match "Powerline" adapters, even though they're different manufacturers?

Yup but iirc speed wise you're stuck at the rate of the slowest equipment.

Yep - It's quite obvious though really - trying to push 1200Mbps through an adapter which only outputs 300Mbps is obviously not going to work.

I could do with a couple of these so I don't have to keep using a USB stick to transfer large files between my laptop and PC in the study
Mine are 200 Mbps, is it worth upgrading to these as I note that my download speeds using current homeplugs are approx. half the download speed when I plug in my wi-fi dongle? Or am I limited by the size of my house and the electricity loops?
