Just right click the Avast icon in your notification area and turn on silent mode. Voila, no more annoying popups.

wouldn't ever install this on any machine - even if it was free

Yes it slows down a bit but at least I'm wearing some protection

I always take precautions, everyone gets a false name and address.
Makes it a pain for Amazon deliveries though.
Avast! does a better job and is free, although they do have the odd annoying pop-ups, some of which are touting for you to buy the premium package.

Sophos for me and McAfee Endpoint Encryption are my choices but its hard to argue against this at a couple of quid if the PC is fast enough to run it.

Yuk, would rather give the £2 to charity
Panda free antivirus works for me.

I hate to tell you this, but in proper independent testing, with real life virus's, and not a specific list of test viri under lab conditions - Panda came 2nd to last, only Win Defender got a worse score. Although to be fair to Panda, the Win Defender score was a LOT LOT worse.
TBH, NONE of the big premium name AV programs came out well in that test.

You could spend £2 on the lottery and win millions, you probably won't but I'd do this before giving McCrappy any of my money.
