Until Tue 18 July, BT-owned Plusnet is offering this 12-month fibre deal for newbies. It includes line rent and unlimited downloads with up-to-38Mb fibre broadband (up to 2x faster than standard), what's more the company was a strong performer in our latest customer service poll – 55% rated it 'great', only 15% 'poor'. This deal's available to 83% of the UK based on postcode (you're told when applying), though you can't get it if you're already a Plusnet customer (or left in the last month). Here's how it works...
- Pay line rent upfront, if you can afford to. It works out as £197.88 for a year, equiv to £16.49/mth. Then it’s the standard £18.99/mth after (also the price all along if you choose monthly payments). - Broadband's £6/mth for 12mths. Unless you don't live in a low cost area, but most do. After the 12-month contract, it rises to £14.99/mth - £50 Amazon voucher. If you sign up to this Broadband Genie deal, you'll be automatically sent a £50 Amazon voucher within 90 days. - Pay by direct debit. Or it's £1.50/mth extra.

Just be aware - if you go for the up to 38Mb package the upload speed is a paltry 1.9Mb and not the more usual 19Mb (convenient how they're so similar looking if not looking too closely, almost like it's done to be missed)

I have Plusnet fibre 76Mb and it's been 99.9% perfect for 2 years solid but I'd never go for the cheaper 39Mb package due to terrible upload speeds.

I used to be with Plusnet and they couldn't offer a decent retention deal so most likely you will have to go after promotional period is over. Meanwhile, Virgin cut my bill by more than 50% when I told them I want to leave. Currently on £15/ month for 100Mb.

Instead of going through broadbandgenie you could buy through Topcashback & get £70 cashback (instead of the £50 Amazon voucher).

I'm sure I read they've scrapped traffic shaping at the start of this month.

It was good enough, I mean the best experience I had so far - 30Mb stable. I tried to negotiate and called them like 3 times but they refused to reduce so had no choice but to join virgin.

Does that affect the connection speed or dropouts?
