Best price we've seen in a long while on this, excellent reviews and quite a lot for your dosh overall. It has been lower, but it seems fairly rare to be honest. A good time to grab one it you've been waiting for another drop on a decent 5.1 system.

still cant believe my z5500 is still going after 10 years. nothing beats that in the same price bracket.
This is similar to what I started out with about 15 years ago. If I could go back and change things, I would have spent a bit extra and bought a separate AVR with a speaker package.. The all in one systems like the one here are great until you want to upgrade, then it's a case of changing the whole lot for something similar and usually end getting something only marginally better.. with separates you can just upgrade components as and when it's needed, they have more connectivity options, and more importantly sound a lot better

Simple buy a cheap (£5-£15) receiver and connect it to aux like I did and it works the same as an expensive 1  or use an Echo if you have 1.

Thought I'd try and search out my first one.. http://www.anandtech.com/show/657
Then I bought this one purely because it did DTS.. http://www.anandtech.com/show/739
It does become an expensive hobby though, now I have a Marantz AVR, M&K speakers and two SVS subwoofers
Are the older Z5500 not better? Would it not be better to look for them over this?

Agree my z5500 has lasted 8 years now and still going strong. I've had the std. blue LED die in the controlpod, as everyone has i believe... But it's still great. I've recently moved it to the living room!

If you have the space, IMO, you'd be better off starting with something like this.. https://www.richersounds.com/product/home-cinema-systems/yamaha/yht1810/yama-yht1810
