still cant believe my z5500 is still going after 10 years. nothing beats that in the same price bracket.
This is similar to what I started out with about 15 years ago. If I could go back and change things, I would have spent a bit extra and bought a separate AVR with a speaker package.. The all in one systems like the one here are great until you want to upgrade, then it's a case of changing the whole lot for something similar and usually end getting something only marginally better.. with separates you can just upgrade components as and when it's needed, they have more connectivity options, and more importantly sound a lot better :smiley:
Happy to help with whatever questions you might have. I would personally get the Toslink cable. It's cheap and saves the hassle of plugging in 3 cables on each end.

Hi... hope you don't mind me asking a stupid question again, but you say you can use the cable that comes with them out the box; which input[s] are for which, please? I'm struggling to see/find how it all hooks up with the cables out of the box? I'm probably just being dumb...
Alternatively, if I was to go via the Toslink cable method, have you one to recommend (that will work)?; I seem to be a bit more naive about this than I realised...

Yeah, your probably right. Another point, if I connect via 3.5mm input, how many of the 5 speakers would work? I think I read you would only get 4.1??? Centre not working?

With regards to connecting to TV and buying a Bluetooth receiver. Does the b tooth use the 3.5mm aux, so then you HAVE to connect to TV via optical?? Just had a bad experience buying optical, the sound was awful! (Maybe I just bought a cheap cable!) So I live with the 3.5mm connection to my TV.

I think it was your cable that was faulty as 1 I paid around £1 works flawlessly so you should consider buying a different one. Bluetooth receivers have 3.5mm input but don't forget audio via cable be it aux/opticle has better sound quality compared to Bluetooth.

:confused: Whatttt £25 :confused:. I paid £10 for these and are the EXACT SAME item so to save money buy these but you will need to buy the screws as they don't come with correct size for speakers:
These are the brackets. £24.90 from Amazon and made for it. Comes with fixing packets for each bracket. Also wall plugs etc.

Snapped up these puppies when they were on prime special deal. Haven't hooked them up yet, but looking forward to seeing what sort of damage I can cause to my ears. Wall brackets you can get off Amazon, and they fit like a gem. Snapped up a logitech bluetooth receiver for £20 off their too and presume it'll all go swimmingly.

My Z906 turned up today (looking forward to setting it all up when I get home) - like you I'm in rental however, I'd say it's fine to fit speakers to a wall...just fill the holes and paint if/when you leave?
On another note, I have a really odd shaped lounge so am not entirely sure wall mounting is going to be an option - think I'll definitely be needing stands for the rear speakers - anyone suggest some good stands with small footprint?

I expect the price dropped to match Ebuyer who are also selling it on Amazon.
If you're happy with a used/returned product then they had one available from Amazon warehouse for £145...that in itself was 167 before Amazon dropped the price of the new item... I think that's the cheapest it'll get!
Still no 5.1. Tried on my laptop and on my desktop (which itself already had a realtek alc1150 chip, capable of dolby digital live)
How did you get yours to work in 5.1 / decoding?

Have had this for 2 years now and it's a great system
paid 145 on a prime lightning deal -5 percent student discount (back in those days)
only complaint: from a PC, even with SPDIF out, even with an external sound card, it still can't get true 5.1
Sure you can use the "3D" mode but it's awful, so you're more or less stuck with 4.1 mode, wherein the front 2 and back 2 speakers are cloned/play the same thing

The speakers themselves has the ability to "decode" Dolby Digit or DTS, but not the ability to encode, similar to how av receivers in general are. You need a soundcard that got Dolby Digital Live function, which is basically the ability to "encode" the audio into Dolby Digital on the fly; entry level soundcard typically only do two channel or pass-through of existing encoding over spdif.

Please forgive my complete novice and rank amateur ignorance for this, but would I be able to use these with the Hisense H49M3000 TV I picked up recently (again, through a deal posted on here)?
I'm a little unsure whether the appropriate connections are available; either on the TV, or on this unit itself.

If your tv has an opticle input then yes you can connect it as this system also has opticle input so you just need to buy the cabel.

I have the same TV so I can confirm that these will work just fine. You can either use the 6-channel input cable you get with the speakers, or you can use the TV's optical input by buying a Toslink cable from Amazon.

Agree my z5500 has lasted 8 years now and still going strong. I've had the std. blue LED die in the controlpod, as everyone has i believe... But it's still great. I've recently moved it to the living room!

My son has this system in his bedroom for his TV, PC and Xbox. It is great, goes extremely loud without distortion and has lots of bass. Cost him nearly £300 a couple of years ago.

These speakers are really good, bought them 2 years back and bought a second pair for another room last year. The Bass on these are phenomenal and overall for me they are they perfect solution for a gaming entertainment setup, they will definitely surpass expectations.

Simple buy a cheap (£5-£15) receiver and connect it to aux like I did and it works the same as an expensive 1 :smiley: or use an Echo if you have 1.
Awesome speaker system ...we had the z5500 (previous model) and loved them so much we upgraded to 2 sets ..living room & garden Room...adding heat to this !! :sunglasses:

I use mine for PS4 gaming and movies. Fantastic sound, no huge ugly receiver and no waiting for HDMI handshaking as it uses digital out.

Because the sound quality are second to none, if in comparison with a similar type in the same price bracket, besides they can go wireless with a Bluetooth adaptor.

Great bit of kit this. Mines hooked up to my tv and Xbox one for uhd. Only downside is that it dosent have a hdmi connection but besides that it's brilliant.

top tip if you have any problems with the 906
To reset your Z906 to the factory default settings:
Power your Z906 off using the Power button on the Control Console.
While in the "Off" state, press and hold down the Input button for eight (:sunglasses: seconds. You'll see several lights on the Control Console light up and there will be a popping sound from the speakers.
Mine has come back to life a few times !!

this or the Samsung HW-K450 soundbar - I know one is a soundbar and I wasn't really looking for 5.1 but...this is a good price. This doesn't appear to have HDMI ARC support though. Anyhow, I'd be interested in what people think about the comparison.

Had a Z5500 for years but I'm never again buying a proprietary speaker system from Logitech.
Great sound but support for the equipment if it breaks is terrible. Plus parts are very hard to find if you want to repair it yourself.
Definitely recommend buying the kit separately over time if you're going the 5.1 route.

If your tv has a optical cable plug, Just buy a optical cable and plug it in and it will play anything your tv does ie TV/Sky/Xbox
