This phone is £599 direct from Apple, so I guess if you can find a sim that gives 600 mins/5000 text/4GB data/roaming for less than £44 for the two years then yes it would be better. Otherwise no.

I think during your investigation/dissection of my post, you hit the nail on the head. I have had it a year and a half because it's been out a year and a half. And within this year and a half it's developed battery issues.

I am a heavy phone user, but that's my life. Then again another apple warrior has already picked on that as being lived wrong so let's leave that for the moment.

p.s: Why do people like you guys need to make every post about a godforsaken apple product a passive aggressive cockfight? I expressed my genuine experience with the iphones and said I was considering getting the 7 but the headphone jack and potential battery issues in the past were a problem. It's sad that you feel the need to "check" me on it. Anyways leaving this thread alone now, so please no need to reply. I actually HAVE a life.

They keep repeating the same old phrase "it just works" when it clearly does not just work! (hence the battery replacement program)
They'e been doing this despite all the numerous faults identified with each model, including the famous "Antennagate" to which Steve Job replied to a customer not to hold the phone in the way he was!
To cut a long story short, Apple have been caught out lying on multiple occasions.
Why was it exactly did you want me to stop mentioning faults related to Apple products again ?

What are apple lying about when it comes to batteries?
penguinman93
14 May 17 1 #117
The 7 is exactly the same shape and size of the 6/6s, the 7 plus is the same and comparable to the 6plus/6splus

I'm just going to suggest that its possible the battery may have been worn out. Of course I don't know how often you use your phone but it is perfectly reasonable for heavy usage to wear out the battery within 1 1/2 to 2 years.

If you're still using it and its up to date you can go to settings>battery and it will tell you if it requires servicing. It would be that or there is some sort of software issue that might be eating up battery in the background and making it so when you are using the device its noticeably bad.

Also, battery life on my 7 has been impressive, probably the best that I've had on an iPhone. Coming from a 6 I used to get to around 30% at the end of the day, I now hit around 50% most days with a fair amount of light and medium usage.

You're looking at it the wrong way
Consider it as advertising standards enforcement, when Apple have been caught out lying, it should be made public not brushed under the carpet and hidden from public knowledge! (which is what they prefer)

Very very tempted to jump on this. Currently pay £20 a month sim only and my trusty lg g3 is falling apart so i do need a new phone...

Oh and sure you could wait for the iphone 8 but then its not going to be 25 a month...itll be 40 minimum for a tariff like this.

All the same size,a couple of differences are:
1. RAM
2. Camera
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6378&idPhone2=7242&idPhone3=8064
But there is a bit of a difference in price (depending on how tolerant you are with lack of storage)
Oh and there's no standard 3.5mm earphone socket on the iPhone 7, although there is an adaptor to plug your wired earphones into the charging port of the phone but that means you can't use the earphones and charge the phone at the same time, unless you buy the wireless Apple ear pods for around £160.
Hope that helps!

"if anything my experience with a lot of android phones like the Nexus and Samsung's batteries consumed a little quicker than the recent iphones"
Bear in mind that the highest power drain on all smartphones is the screen and iPhones screens have historically been below 4.7" up until the iPhone 6 which was released in 2014.
"Doesn't make sense you buy a new phone purely for the battery doesn't make sense as you'll be in the same position in 18 months anyway"
Which is why i'm still using my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (with 1 battery change) for the last 3+ years and it still has better specs than some of the newer phones out today!
Not bad for a £430 phone.
Edit: I've also managed to pick up a spare battery for a tenner, so i'll be expecting at least another year out of it.
BTW it's not my only phone, but it has survived longer than any other phone i've had.

DAZZ2000
12 May 17 #95
Sounds like your son is unfortunate then with the model of Samsung phone he is using. I guess support may vary depending upon handset model - my S5 is nigh on 3 years old and I had an update for it only the other week. Like the Iphone 4 though, my handset isn't currently supporting the latest O/S. Mine currently sports O/S version 6.0.1 and I doubt it'll receive 7.0 (Nougat?).

Apple's support for older handsets is good but they too eventually cease support - at least from the O/S point of view.

Completely agree, your decision should not be influenced by reviews from Trustpilot.. as all major networks BT, Virgin, Sky, you name it will all be guaranteed to have haters spouting vicious words regardless. Always best to listen to the recommendations through word of mouth and work out what is best value for you

12 May 17 #93
Hi all, thanks for the heat with this deal.

We can confirm that iPhones provided by iD mobile will lock to the first network SIM used, we are able to unlock the handset after completing at least 6 months of the contract.

We know that Trustpilot shows a negative opinon however, as pointed out by bunkum100 and eslick, most UK networks have the same sort of posts and scores, this doesn't represent all the customers.

We work to help any customer who has a problem like furlan so feel free to get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.

Yes that may be true but you can't judge trustpiolots reviews they only show one side of the story and trustpilot doesn't show that.

On to your comment, people need to take responsibility for their own actions, read the small print, read what happens if you go over data, they can't hid this from you it's there in black and white but people see headline figure oh we are happy with that and then bang, hit with fees because you used more data than you should have. Just like those who got thousands from ppi because they didn't know what they were signing up to.

Also - Just getting in my 2 pence, if you're going for an android phone (which I no longer recommend to friends and fam) - go for one of the google direct models.

My fathers iphone 5 is still reciveing secuirty updates and bug fixes from apple, after all these years.

My sons' Samsung - was only supported for 18 months.. Any exploits/bugs in the Os will remain unpatched till the unit is for the bin.

In the age of constant haxks/leaks and cyberfraud - I have a feeling that this key issue will shift the debate on mobile OS updates. Its just a matter of time.

11 May 17 2 #78
Sounds like time for a change then. If I were you I'd check out the offerings from the like of LG, HTC, Samsung or Huawei on android.

In fairness to the Apple brand, you can get unlucky with batteries at times from any brand. You also have the use case to consider and most of us are different. I have also come to learn that it's best not to let my phones (yes I know it's crazy but I have a work provided iPhone 6S and my own Samsung S5 - prefer some stuff on android plus always best to keep most of my social life separate) not get completely flat before recharging. I try to charge them before they get below 20%.

My work phone's battery lasts longest but then it's used more as a phone whereas my S5 is used for pretty much everything else - so not a great comparison I concede!. I get about a day of medium use out of the S5 and about 2 days of light use out of the iPhone 6s.

So to sum up I'd say try something different. You've had two iPhones already, there are other options out there. The same phone doesn't suit everyone.

How is it? I've had many iPhone and android phones, all the batteries are similar, if anything my experience with a lot of android phones like the Nexus and Samsung's batteries consumed a little quicker than the recent iphones. If you are changing phones ONLY for the battery then just switching the battery is going to save you more money in the long run. If you want to upgrade your phone for the bump in specs like camera etc then fair enough. Doesn't make sense you buy a new phone purely for the battery doesn't make sense as you'll be in the same position in 18 months anyway.

You are a heavy phone user, you said it your self, batteries don't last a certain time in years and months, they last how many times you recycle them. If you are heavy on the phone and are going through the battery a lot it's going to lose it's efficiently, that's what happens with all batteries not just iPhones. If the rest of the phone is in working order then just go to the Apple Store and get a new battery fitted for £69, much more cost effective than changing your phone all the time purely because of the battery.

I didn't perceive their comments as "crying" they were rightfully making a valid point, why is it that most other manufacturers can produce a smartphone with a longer lasting battery at as low as half, if not lower than the cost of an iPhone ?

Well if my phone battery is worrying me, it has to be me. We can't all be apple obsessed millennials living with our parents, vlogging and freelance life coaching for a living surviving on gluten free food and turning to the internet for a sex life. Some of us have homes and businesses which involve being out in the real world, making calls and sending receiving emails. We buy products which promise to carry out these tasks effectively and when they fall short we have a right to worry and complain. Your response is the cancer found on all apple "forums"; anytime someone mentions they have an issue it becomes a criticism and analysis of their lives. I would say get a life but you already have your phone I guess.

I have been thinking about this, but I had a 6 Plus and after a year and a half the battery got so bad you needed it on charge most of the time. In the morning it would be 100% and by the time you got into work it would be at 40% and surprisingly shut down. Then I had the iphone 6S plus and it worked for a year and a half and finally the battery got so bad I needed to have it on charge at ALL times. One call would drain the battery halfway. Of course I was younger when I got into iphones and have always kept up but now I am sick and tired to the core of worrying about battery and such issues. Life is too short to be worrying about this garbage. On top of everything without the headphone jack the iphone 7 may as well be a brick. I am sure I am not the only one with this experience, would be interested in hearing others. I am sure everyone else has had an absolutely stellar life changing experience with their iphone 6/7s?

cant comment on the 6 battery life . but the missus needs to move on from her 5c so this looked a tempting deal . she's still getting almost 2 days use out of the phone . perhaps sea just lucky

Apart from never having an issue with iphone batteries, how did you manage to have 6s issues a year and a half in when the 6s is now only a year and a half old now?
How does lack of a jack make it a brick?

* Never had a battery "problem" but appreciate they probably aren't the longest lasting in the market.
* The 7 comes with an tiny adapter for the standard headphone jack, everyone cried for no reason.
* You've had two phones for 18 months (36 months) within the past 31 months).
* If you're worrying deeply about battery life, maybe it's your life that needs a change, not your phone.

I'd get this. Sadly I'm locked into a £8 sim only deal with three for another 9 months

This phone is £599 direct from Apple, so I guess if you can find a sim that gives 600 mins/5000 text/4GB data/roaming for less than £44 for the two years then yes it would be better. Otherwise no.

ID mobile's service is terrible; took me months to unlock a phone I brought to their network. They are good if you just want a cheap sim.
Is it not just better to finance the phone through Apple? IT's costs about the same, but it is yours, unlocked and you can recycle it when you please.

Is ID mobile any good?

These are flex locking. Which means locks to first sim inserted. Best bet is put in a O2 sim and unlock as ID will charge you £40 to unlock because it's flex
boffin to tara1082
11 May 17 #10
Not sure I follow. Do O2 not charge for unlocking? So put in an O2 payg sim, unlock and then do the id sim?
eslick to tara1082
11 May 17 #14

Only three don't lock. O2 you either have to have a contract and it's free to unlock or £15 on payg

I know I unlocked all my o2 contract iPhone's for free from the o2 website.
