So you're saying that smartphones can't record video in 1080P what about all the ones that actually record in 4K resolution? What about those ones smarty? Are you saying my Samsung Galaxy S6 doesn't record in 4K @ 30fps and it doesn't record in 1080P @ 60fps? And are you saying that the CMOS sensor size of 1/2.6" is better than the smaller 1/4" sensor size in this camcorder? No because actually you don't have a clue what you're talking about obviously.

Why should you buy this if you already have a decent smartphone? Well you'd buy this if you want to or can make use of the optical zoom.

you never possessed a camcorder I think and therefore there is no way you know about quality of an ordinary proper camcorder, this particular one would definitely be 100 times better picture quality than the best smart phone. Definetely I would not buy one for the greater range of the optical zoom which usually does deteriorate the picture unless necessarily needed. I do not need to make anything credible to you because I owned camcorders since they exist and also owned the best smartphones money can buy.

Are all camcorders pretty much the same? I need one (because phone video not good enough) but there is such a massive range to choose from and I don't know how to choose. Need something pocket sized with decent ish optical zoom, is this Canon one a good choice for some technical reason or did OP just think it was a good price.
