Could someone explain in layman's terms what the point of a £200+ (including specialised installation) smart thermostat is compared to a manual £20 thermostat? Are you paying 10x the price because it pays for itself in savings over X number of years or is it so you can change the temperature from your sofa instead of having to stand up and walk 10 paces to a wall thermostat?

I agree, it seems that the only benefit is that these thermostats can be operated remotely by say a mobile phone, I'm not sure that there are any other benefits ....... perhaps somebody else would like to comment?

I've got a system boiler and it works perfectly  The heat link is installed on the storage tank and hot water can be scheduled on the app

I already have an existing wireless thermostat so going to go very a blast my self.
I'd say no more than £40 install as shouldn't take a professional more than 30mins
£40 being Midlands where i live, expect maybe £70 if in London

£40, go on the best approved installers, they all want £80 but keep trying some are £40.
Mine is on the stand not fixed to the wall.
Great bit of kit well worth it if you are a gadget man

There's some great videos on YouTube that talk you through the installation process (make sure you view the UK ones as the American Nest has different terminations). Just be careful not to stick 240v down the control unit as it will fry it

I just removed all my wiring, i had no wiring to my HW and Heating Off just to the On, also my junction box is a right mess!

Hi, would this be better than a hive, we have just had a ideal logic combi boiler fitted? This looks a good price.

Personally I went for the Netatmo Thermostat for use with my Ideal Vogue.
You can get it for around £126 maybe even cheaper if you shop around. I also love the design compared to the comparatively gaudy hive/nest
