Love the Windows 10 phones, they're decent. Just bought a Samsung but (apps aside) they're not a patch on the value for money you get in a Windows phone. If you don't bother with apps, I'd recommend.

No joke. i'm currently running a (2 actually) Lumia 830 alongside a Samsung S6, the Lumia wins hands-down for me. Much better value for money, is stable, no problems for nearly 24 months. You can add extra memory & change the battery. Banking works fine, social media works fine. Stuff like Ebay/Amazon works well via Edge, so no app needed. Music & stuff also works well (no issues with Spotify for me). Bluetooth also good - for stuff like fitness trackers & speakers. The Samsung I've got to replace the Lumias is pretty awful in comparison - weaker signal strength on 4G so can't use it in the house, poor battery, terrible, terrible user interface aimed at kids, camera nowhere near as good. I'm sure it'll be fine once I figure out how to flash it onto a stock Android. But it does do apps., and loads of them, if that's what you like. My old iPhone was better, until the 2-year Apple limit of ioS support was reached, then it was no good for anything other than making calls anyway. So now it does well as a bedside clock.
If you want a phone to make calls, do the basics & sync with your PC, then W10 does a good job at a much cheaper price for the same spec. and for a longer life. Shame that Microsoft has disavowed W10Mobile.
But for £45, this is a decent phone.

You listed a Refurb Lumia 550 locked to O2 for £49.99, so not really similar at all. The Lumia 550 is a significantly worse phone, for a higher price than this Lumia 650 deal. It's ever likely it went cold quick.
This is a hot deal IMO, yours wasn't.

battery life is only great because you use it less! Lack of apps is a killer for a 'smart phone'

I don't like the phone but decent price. Tesco may be different but here at work we buy them from O2 and they don't seem to lock the Windows phones (did for all our other makes)

It will definitely be locked to Tesco Mobile.
It's a nice phone for £45, the design is nice, the screen is great quality, and the cameras are good.
Windows 10 Mobile as an OS is pretty good now, as are a lot of third party UWP apps on the store. The same can't be said for official apps though; the majority of which are either missing (ebay, paypal) or extremely poor quality (Facebook, Spotify, Facebook Messenger, Amazon).

I am not actually sure if this comment is serious or a joke?
Windows phones are the worst phones i have ever used or supported. I wouldn't even know where to begin on their shortcomings compared to other manufacturers.
Only Pro i can think of for a Windows phone is battery life. That is it.
Hot deal though for a cheap phone.

Windows phones are great. My first smartphone was a windows one. Apps and support, locating downloads were a big problem. My 920 (or was it 925) had a metal case and I could download maps for many countires so no data usage for Satellite navigation. Maybe someone here can tell me how you can do that on Apple/Android.

amazing how this deal isn't freezing cold - I put up a similar deal for this phone a couple of weeks ago for £40 and it's -120!
Love for Windows Phones appears to have wained.

550 is not great, reboots needed when it stops getting/sending texts or microphone stops working.

A smartphone does not need apps, it needs to get online with a decent screen, social media needs apps - banking apps on WP was good for me when I had one, my banks were supported. I dumped WP after my W7 phone went unsupported, then my W8 was supported with W10 and then support was dropped. Until Microsoft get a grip of hardware on WP I won't be buying another, have a i6S at the moment but Bluetooth only headphones is a killer for me with a iPhone battery life, I don't want to carry a external battery everyday. Android is just Android, BB10 is great but battery life is worse than WP. The whole industry really needs to get to grip with battery life and it's evolution as internet use becomes more and more mobile devices, it is only going to get worse.

The camera is run by an App, texts are through a built in App, those little numbers you use to call people is actually an App. Go buy a 3310, it's all you deserve.
