Love the Windows 10 phones, they're decent. Just bought a Samsung but (apps aside) they're not a patch on the value for money you get in a Windows phone. If you don't bother with apps, I'd recommend.

No joke. i'm currently running a (2 actually) Lumia 830 alongside a Samsung S6, the Lumia wins hands-down for me. Much better value for money, is stable, no problems for nearly 24 months. You can add extra memory & change the battery. Banking works fine, social media works fine. Stuff like Ebay/Amazon works well via Edge, so no app needed. Music & stuff also works well (no issues with Spotify for me). Bluetooth also good - for stuff like fitness trackers & speakers. The Samsung I've got to replace the Lumias is pretty awful in comparison - weaker signal strength on 4G so can't use it in the house, poor battery, terrible, terrible user interface aimed at kids, camera nowhere near as good. I'm sure it'll be fine once I figure out how to flash it onto a stock Android. But it does do apps., and loads of them, if that's what you like. My old iPhone was better, until the 2-year Apple limit of ioS support was reached, then it was no good for anything other than making calls anyway. So now it does well as a bedside clock.
If you want a phone to make calls, do the basics & sync with your PC, then W10 does a good job at a much cheaper price for the same spec. and for a longer life. Shame that Microsoft has disavowed W10Mobile.
But for £45, this is a decent phone.

You listed a Refurb Lumia 550 locked to O2 for £49.99, so not really similar at all. The Lumia 550 is a significantly worse phone, for a higher price than this Lumia 650 deal. It's ever likely it went cold quick.

This is a hot deal IMO, yours wasn't.

I don't like the phone but decent price. Tesco may be different but here at work we buy them from O2 and they don't seem to lock the Windows phones (did for all our other makes)

It will definitely be locked to Tesco Mobile.

It's a nice phone for £45, the design is nice, the screen is great quality, and the cameras are good.

Windows 10 Mobile as an OS is pretty good now, as are a lot of third party UWP apps on the store. The same can't be said for official apps though; the majority of which are either missing (ebay, paypal) or extremely poor quality (Facebook, Spotify, Facebook Messenger, Amazon).

I am not actually sure if this comment is serious or a joke?

Windows phones are the worst phones i have ever used or supported. I wouldn't even know where to begin on their shortcomings compared to other manufacturers.

Only Pro i can think of for a Windows phone is battery life. That is it.

Hot deal though for a cheap phone.

Windows phones are great. My first smartphone was a windows one. Apps and support, locating downloads were a big problem. My 920 (or was it 925) had a metal case and I could download maps for many countires so no data usage for Satellite navigation. Maybe someone here can tell me how you can do that on Apple/Android.

A smartphone does not need apps, it needs to get online with a decent screen, social media needs apps - banking apps on WP was good for me when I had one, my banks were supported. I dumped WP after my W7 phone went unsupported, then my W8 was supported with W10 and then support was dropped. Until Microsoft get a grip of hardware on WP I won't be buying another, have a i6S at the moment but Bluetooth only headphones is a killer for me with a iPhone battery life, I don't want to carry a external battery everyday. Android is just Android, BB10 is great but battery life is worse than WP. The whole industry really needs to get to grip with battery life and it's evolution as internet use becomes more and more mobile devices, it is only going to get worse.

The camera is run by an App, texts are through a built in App, those little numbers you use to call people is actually an App. Go buy a 3310, it's all you deserve.

Lol

I have a s6 as personal phone, wm as work phone, can't remember which but it's got w10 on it. It's truly awful.

Internet browsing is appalling, trying to type is appalling as home button is right below the space bar, email is rubbish and slow.

In fact I use my personal phone for work now apart from calls.

All soon to be upgraded to android too as everyone is complaining about them and as I'm the It Manager I get to choose! Unfortunately the manager prior to me chose these pieces of junk. I'd rather have the BlackBerry over this.

Windows 10 is worse than Windows 8. My Windows 8 phone (Lumia 735) is fast, smooth, and reliable. My experience of Windows 10 mobile is worse (but not as bad as you make it out), such that I actually changed to Android recently (a Moto G4). However, I was surprised I was finding that my Windows Phone does things that my Android phone just can't, or in better ways, despite all the hype from people saying how rubbish WP is compared to Android. Maybe much of this comes down to what you are familiar with - if you are used to Android, trying to use a WP might be frustrating. But they’re not “junk” to me, even if they are to you (and “everyone” at your workplace).
chancooluk
27 Apr 17 1 #26
Windows 10 isn't necessarily worse than WP8, its just far more complex and feature rich, which accounts for the lack of performance compared to WP8. To be fair to W10, it has been significantly better since the Anniversary Update was released last year. The original W10 'Threshold' releases were an absolute dumpster fire. The only performance issues I have with W10M at the moment are with poorly made official apps like Facebook and Spotify.
WhiteGoose
27 Apr 17 #27
To be fair, much of my experience of W10 was when I upgraded my Lumia 735 (I’ve done it twice now, but reverted back to WP8 each time). It runs terribly on it, even after the Anniversary Update, though obviously it was not specially designed to run W10. I’ve also used it on the Lumia 550, but still wasn’t so impressed with it - mainly in terms of the speed compared to WP8. Little things like the slight delay and showing of the Outlook logo when I open my mailbox - whereas I could instantly go to my mailbox with WP8. Frustrating as hell. Anyway, I’m sure MS will continue to iron out the issues...hopefully it will be sorted by the time of the Surface Phone!

Only people who don't complain are the directors who have iPhones which thank God they don't as they're worse than wm!

Anniversary edition is for desktop/tablets. The phone edition will have a 'anniversary' when MS stabilise the MobileS rather than past throw them all out to market, they seem to be getting there with 550, 650 and 950, hopefully the mantra will stick - entry, mid, top - then and only then will WM anniversary be stable rather than working on a plethora of devices, most the plethora will go the way of my 1320, support dropped, concentrate on 3 models per year, wonder what WM devices are coming 2017.

Ah ok, thanks for the info. Either way, having tried W10 on my Lumia 735 when it was first available, and then over a year later, it was still just as unusable. That said, I’m still a WP fan at heart. I read that Microsoft are due to release another WP this year, and then the surface phone after that. Looks like they have dropped the top - mid - budget approach of the 950, 650, and 550, and focussing on a single phone. It seems like a lifetime away from the time that there were close to 10 classes of Lumias...

If only the phones were stable.

I had a 1020 running W8 and i loved it, could not find a fault. I then Dev tested the 1020 running W10...everything started failing. I was unable to downgrade back to W8 and i ended up buying a secondhand 1020 running W8 just to enjoy my mobile/ smartphone experience again. I pre-ordered 950XL and when it finally arrived (2 months of delays) i was really pleased.

If you log onto any phone comparing site and look at the specs compare: I-phone 7 plus VS Samsung S8+ VS Microsoft 950XL. The 950XL is right up there (by the way 950XL has been withdrawn from sale quietly - cant buy from Microsoft anymore). The problem i have found with the 950XL is a lack of apps to use the power of the phone. The front camera has a software fault which Microsoft refusing to release a patch.

One of the funny things i found was even though the battery is replaceable - Try and find a retailer selling a replacement battery... (good luck).

I have reluctantly jumped ship and whilst i wanted to hold out for Nokia 8 -scheduled June 2017... based on the 2 months delay on 950XL, i am not prepared to wait until August/ September for the new Nokia (specs look amazing).

Sorry to digress and heat added to a good back up phone.

28 Apr 17 1 #37
That doesn't apply to this deal, the Lumia 650 is still officially supported.

To be fair to Microsoft, the handsets they have dropped support for (at least for feature updates) are all over 2-4 years old. The handsets are still supported for security updates for the next 12 months though.

Microsoft is still allowing users with older handsets to upgrade to the latest version, by using the Windows Insider program. They even released a guide on how to do this yesterday in the Feedback Hub app. MSPoweruser has an article on it here: https://mspoweruser.com/microsoft-will-still-let-unsupported-windows-phones-update-creators-update/

You can only speak of your own experience. I have used Windows phones, Android and Apple since circa 2012. Apple is nice but no way worth the premium. Windows is superior as an operating system for a reliable business phone.

I accept many don't like it, many want millions of apps, but for a slick and non buggy business phone, Windows is unbeatable.

And trust me, I'm a techie and blumin hate Microsoft, as is traditional.

Apple supports phones for longer than 2 years. You can install iOS 10 still on an iPhone 5 which came out in like 2012 so your statement is completely false. It might run visibly slower than on a newer iPhone but it is officially supported as I said.
chancooluk
28 Apr 17 1 #40
Were you replying to me? I never mentioned Apple, or any other manufacturer, so how is my statement completely false?

Apple is the best at supporting its old hardware, I agree with that. They should focus on providing software that doesn't cripple the hardware though, as they don't optimise the software updates to run properly on older hardware.

IMO Microsoft is better than the majority of Android manufacturers that often only provide 1 feature update, or don't bother providing updates at all. They are generally getting much better at providing updates though recently.

Some people are just very insecure in themselves, money does not buy class, the right attitude nor personality.

Boasting about status as a means of making others feel insecure (or trying) usually a sign of insecurity or mental health or both, the fact someone has to hijack a thread on unrelated matters points to attention seeking and thus my latter point above, who retires at 37 to surf the web and not to a hotter climate? lol.

There seems to be a higher and higher possibility of mental issues, or sheer maliciousness, we must support people like that, auditory processing? autism? deep insecurity? bipolar? sociopath? personality disorder? but the rest who chose to behave like a self centred child we just body swerve.

Insecurity is a horrible thing, self centred is just vulgar though.

Hopefully a mod can make the poster aware of the board rules applying regardless of the self interest overinflation.

it is slick in one sense, most computer users use Windows and Microsoft are duplicating for billions of consumers not interested in learning a new OS on their computers, Windows Phone 7&8 were much slicker than what 10 is, but we are all beta testers these days for the big 3, Apple, Google & Microsoft and the EU at some point is going to stop them doing that en mass beta testing on a general release product.

I liked my Windows Phone 7/8 but until 10 is solid and stable I will swerve Windows Mobile. As Android and Apple built on OS, Microsoft kept scrapping and starting again, it still has catch up to play, but for simplicity WM is a good smartphone as a first user to such.

I quite like windows phone, did have a blue jr LTE dual sim and was quite impressed with its slickness, compared to my Moto g. But it was buggy, 2nd sim and wifi would often just disconnect and it would randomly restart whilst on charge, particularly annoying at night when sleeping! Assuming those issues are the phone rather than Windows itself, i would consider another, especially for ease of syncing with windows laptops.

I had a 1320 and it was solid, I know someone with a basic W10 entry Lumia 550 and it has problems where texts stop coming in or the mic stops working, I think it is the cheaper WM handsets with the hardware and OS having conflicts. I to will also consider a WM10 when they up the hardware as no way am I being forced into a iPhone upgrade with Bluetooth headphones without a massive upgrade in battery life.

Just bought this phone, and the verdict is:

TERRIBLE.

If you don't use any apps then go ahead and get this. It looks nice, decent screen, and can do the basics (just)

However, wanna load whatsapp? Nah, you'll be waiting at least ten seconds everytime you open that one up. Enjoy missing about 10% of those messages to.

Wanna load spotify, instagram, facebook? Have fun waiting for all them to load too. And when they do finally load up, have fun with your apps crashing ALL the time.

Glitchy UI, unreliable as sh*t, slow and just a pain to use.

To top it all off, lost 4 weeks worth of notes because the phone decided it didn't want them anymore...

Avoid this pile of sh*t, even at this price.
