The Diamondback Scree 1.0 is ideal for starting out in the rugged world of mountain biking. Its tough alloy frame is lightweight and manageable but will easily handle the abuse the trails can give.
Alloy Butted Hydrofomed frame tubing for a lighter, more responsive and durable bike
Shimano 21-speed derailleurs for smooth gear shifting
Suntour M3030 Suspension Forks
Tektro Novela mechanical disc brakes for a powerful and controlled braking action
Double walled 27.5” rims are lightweight yet stiff, to deliver precise steering
Also they have left out the cassette information from the spec for the simple reason you can see it's a basic shimano 7 speed freewheel so the rear wheel isn't going to be that strong and this isn't really a viable entry level mountain bike. You may find similar bikes at Halfords and Decathlon that might feature better components for only a little bit more. I'd personally put this bike at good value at between £150-180 but its pretty much full price for the spec at £229. It does look the part but in the detail there are quite a few failings.
Better drivetrain and a much stronger cassette based rear wheel. Apart from that pretty much the same I guess.
Check out Zeek as sometimes you can get Decathlon gift cards cheap from there which can help bring down the price of Decathlon bikes.

Just reserved but forgot to apply the voucher - will have to ask in store - not paid yet.
Had a diamond back as a kid, and was the best bike I ever owned until some rag stole it.
Bought this for the Mrs's - be perfect for her, and can finally use my Cube

What are you on about? You can't base the strength of wheel on which cassette it has on it.

worth the money but the rrp is too high.this is a basic bike with the cheapest shimano gear and useless brakes . the price is about right, certainly not a bargain level but decent deal.hot

Perfect, thanks. I've been searching a lot and finding a few of these that look like really good deals. I saved a few i liked and passed them on to a bike junkie who just told me to go second hand instead...
Seems like for under £300, unless it's a really ridiculous offer (i saw a Calibre Two Two at £250 which seemed too good to be true), you're just gonna end up with something that's had too many corners cut to make it look the part.

Yes it is cheap. But it also is crap.
There is no point in cheap mountain bikes. They are too heavy and too fragile for actual trial riding. And they make no sense as a general purpose bike.
