Saw this advertised last night on telly and collected this morning. It's perfect for me as I'm off to uni at the end of the summer and it is really small so won't take up tons of space and it looks nicer than normal printers too. But the main reason I picked it is because it gives you 15 free prints every month which will be great for me and save me a fortune on ink cartridges.

15 free prints is not an awful lot

I use instant ink from a deal i bought a few months ago and it asks you before it charges you anything so you don't ever pay for something you don't agree to if that makes sense? You can use this with a chromebook too as I use it with mine but it's a little bit complicated. Basically you have to download the HP Print for Chrome app and then register your printer on google cloud print

OP: Do yourself a favour and buy a black and white laser printer. Save yourself a fortune when printing out essays and research...

Depends on how many people you're blackmailing.

Anyone know if this can be used with a Chromebook? I'm also a bit suspicious about the "instant ink" contract with 15 free pages per month, it all seems a bit too good to be true and I'm wondering what the catch is.

catch is, it is a subscription plan requiring credit card details so the moment you print more than 15 in a month you will get charged.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of getting this for my non-techy parents - how good is it at automatically reconnecting to the wireless network after having been powered off for a couple of weeks? Anything less than faultless would be a dealbuster for them!

Would this be part of a subscription deal where you have to order a month's print and you get 15 free prints on top of that .
I dunno , I'm looking for the catch as well

Just bought one. Its a voucher for 1 year "free" trial of HP Ink. Will only be charged IF you go over the 15 pages.
TBH, I've not seen this business model in the home market before and even the entry level £1.99 per month seems a good deal for people who don't print much.
My mother prints a few photos of the grandkids every month and so the nozzle heads require cleaning fairly regularly (and that's very wasteful on ink). I have gone through the T&C's and there aren't any gotchas. Was expecting to see something like 15 free pages based on 5% coverage etc, nothing
Unused pages are NOT rolled over in the free plan (they are on the paid plans)
HP will charge Participant overage fees in the amount of £1.00 (“Excess Fees”) for each additional set of 10 pages (“Overage Pages”).

No you don't have to buy anything upfront but you do have to put in your payment details so that if you go over 15 prints then you will be charged but it doesn't do that without your confirmation. It says you have to keep the printer connected to your wifi though so HP makes sure you don't run out of ink.

I just voted hot on this and it went from +71 to +62. that's odd.

No - clearly several other people voted cold between you opening the thread and voting hot.
