If they 6k miles is spread across the year, then your 16ish miles a day, let's presume you are going to and from work, so less than 8 miles a trip in your decent diesel car isn't going to be too healthy, plus you'd be much cheaper purchasing a petrol car in the first place. i doubt you'd be seeing 65mpg (to give 500 quid) from it either. Then you'll likely have GFR valve issues, possibly ad blue to worry about etc. Modern diesels are horribly complex things.
If you only do 6k a year, then it's petrol all the way money wise, but a leaf at 200 quid a month is a huge step forward, and isn't all about saving money.

6000 miles ? Is it worth the hassle. A decent diesel car will do 6000 miles for £500 of diesel, that's just over £40 a month. Also the electric is not free anyway, so the true saving is very little.

Diesel car would have to be free for that to be a comparison. Chances of getting a new 'decent' diesel car and running it for an overall lower TCO seem low.
Also, see the comments where people have chargers are available at workplace, in this case vast majority of Electricity would be free.

I bet your excited, coolest car in the car park ..... Datsun plug in electric......
20,000 miles per annum, god that's some charging up!
I've done it, you spend more time waiting for it to charge than driving it, then you realise your charger at home is not quick enough, so you get cards and use rapid chargers on motorway etc. £6 a charge!
I could go on for ever, argue now, but 3 months into it you will agree with me.

I have had my leaf almost 2 years. I've gone 6k over The 8k miles per year. There is one way to show what i have thought of my first time with the leaf. What is my next Car?
I have just ordered another Nissan Leaf.
If you are expecting to be accommodating in 1 way or another for owning an electric I think it helps. For example, u can't blaze up and down motorways at 80mpg and expect 155 miles. Charging at home has never been a problem for me. I work normal office hours and just put it on charge when I get home and it's charged in the morning. If u requireme multiple charges during the day I could imagine it causing a bit of an anxiety wondering if it will charge enough. But that's not been my situation, I don't often do over 70-80 miles in a day.
if you have any queries just let me know. But it's been a great car.

You're paying £10,000 then? I just don't like the risk of being stuck with a car payment should circumstances change. Would rather just pay for a car I can afford upfront.

I really want this to be batter value for me over my existing diesel (2.2 Civic, £15k miles p/a), but my (possibly terrible) calculations result in this being more expensive. I understand it's a new car, and cool tech, and environmentally better, but I don't think I can justify the extra expense.

I really want to go electric but I'm not sure if it's real value for money in my situation so I would appreciate some help.
We run 2 cars so we can get rid of one and replace it with this. Probably spend about £60 a month on petrol per car, and when I factor in reduced car tax (not exactly sure how much less this will be), no MOT for 2 years, I'm roughly estimating spending £2k per petrol car compared to about £5k for this. Depreciation on existing cars would probably add £1k a year. Difference about £2k maybe.
I appreciate this is a brand new car with all mod cons etc, so I'm really tempted.

The deal isn't available on website you have to call Nissan Birmingham Central , I increased mine to 10k miles I think it's about £15 a month extra, even if you go over the mileage I think it's something like £100-150 extra cost are the end of 2 years for every 1k miles, can't remember what the exact figure was but I'm sure it wasn't much. The benefit with this was that you only pay a £200 deposit. However if your'e getting metallic paint, parking sensors( even though you have 360 degrees cameras) extra mileage , gap insurance and other extras it can go up to £270 a month but that depends on your own preference ( the car is the Tekna model which is already fully loaded) they also encourage you to return it at the end as because of the depreciation it isn't worth it and they want you to get the new model after 24 months.
I felt it benefitted me as I spend £150-200 a month on diesel.
