If it had discs I'd be all over it, but not sure I can go back to v brakes.

I think the 8 speed hub would be a far better enhancement. Nothing wrong with a decent set of V brakes as long as they are properly set up. Lighter too!

Don't write it off just because of the v- brakes. Unless you're loading it up with half a hundred weight of camping gear, or live in mud/crud permanently you won't notice a massive difference between low end discs and half decent v-brakes.

Nearly the same as my dads commuter from 50 years ago apart from his had a steel frame and Sturmey Archer 3 speed.

Nearly the same as my trike of fifty years ago except it had three wheels and no gears and solid tyres
I'm after a decent mountain bike deal if anyone knows of one? i bought a Giant Revel the other year for £175 but i can only find similar bikes for £300+ at the moment. it's a present for my son for his birthday.
