I've been holding out on buying an SSD for my build as prices have gone crazy lately. I know you could have found some better deals about a year ago, but this is the best price I've found on a 480/500 gig drive. I've read prices are expected to go up further still, this may well be the best price you'll find for a while.
Don't have much info on the drive itself. It's AMD branded but I believe they bought out OCZ.
Note, dispatch time quotes 1 to 2 months. I'm hoping to receive mine sooner, but if you're in a rush you might want to look elsewhere.
The R3 drives are manufactured by a contract maker and then distributed by Galt, the company that distributes AMD’s Radeon-branded memory modules.
The R3 is not a tosh/OCZ drive. Its basically a Crucial BX200 clone with lower binned NAND and probably not as good firmware. IE its TLC NAND with a SMI 2256 controller that is probably running 100% stock SMI firmware. Its 'made' by a firm that is not well known in the storage industry but approached AMD trying to get into it with the idea of adding to AMDs lineup at a lower price point than OCZ could offer. IE they are AMD board partner that are trying to get a toe hold in a new marketplace. IIRC just like OCZ they are turnkey operation for this drive in that AMD is basically just lending them their name (for a slice of the action). No idea on RMA, support, firmware, where they are sourcing their NAND, etc. Take all that for what you will. YMMV etc etc etc. Source

Think I'll "pre-order" a couple to replace the hard drives in my Mac Pro.
Shows as an extra 10 for postage for me. So ends up being 20 more.

Yes the email (image) is a different drive but it had a longer than usual expected delivery date which came and went & got extended until I finally got the email. In the meantime while I waited hopefully SSD prices went through the roof as you have noticed so waiting for a 'bargain' Amazon SSD device on a long expected delivery date has actually left me out of pocket. Hope yours does come but the alternative is pay a bit more now and definitely get it before (possibly) prices rise further.

For me, unfortunately, there's no free delivery on the one you linked as I'm in Ireland. Good deal if you can get free postage though.

Glad I'm not in the market for a SSD, they were £75 for this size a year ago. I thought we'd be seeing a TB for around £100 now.

Memory chips. Same happened with Ram modules. Manufacturers cannot keep up with producing them and demand is to big so they almost doubled in price.
