Not seen this deal before but seems cheap for Philips Hue range.
Please note this is for the first generation light strip which can not be extended like the second generation units.

Except they don't, because they don't integrate with Hue or any other home automation system......

I already have one behind the tv but at this price i'd be silly not to buy another... i've therefore purchased one to go under my sofa!

Are these good to go for a first time hue user? Do you need a starter kit or anything?

You will need the Philips bridge to control the light strip and change the colour of it. You can normally pick the bridges up quite cheaply

Great price. Heat added.
If you are handy with a soldering irom you may be able to extend as the hue strip has the same cut/solder marks as any other LED strip.
(of course that relies on the controller being able to drive the additional LEDs, so I doubt you can add a huge number more).

They will drive as many as you want within reason, they will however lose brightness the more you add. Also if you use 3rd party lights the colours will be out as they don't match Phillips leds
