Not seen this deal before but seems cheap for Philips Hue range.
Please note this is for the first generation light strip which can not be extended like the second generation units.

Except they don't, because they don't integrate with Hue or any other home automation system......

I already have one behind the tv but at this price i'd be silly not to buy another... i've therefore purchased one to go under my sofa!

Are these good to go for a first time hue user? Do you need a starter kit or anything?

You will need the Philips bridge to control the light strip and change the colour of it. You can normally pick the bridges up quite cheaply

Great price. Heat added.
If you are handy with a soldering irom you may be able to extend as the hue strip has the same cut/solder marks as any other LED strip.
(of course that relies on the controller being able to drive the additional LEDs, so I doubt you can add a huge number more).

They will drive as many as you want within reason, they will however lose brightness the more you add. Also if you use 3rd party lights the colours will be out as they don't match Phillips leds

You can extend these as well as split them, you need to be very careful but it is possible.

Is £25.00 a good deal for a new Philips Hue Bridge 2.0

Does £34.99 make this first gen version a good purchase? Or does the saving still not make them worthwhile over the 2nd gen?

Cheap but really not bright. I'd say the extra money for the second generation is better for most users. If you don't need bright then this is a good deal.

Should be OK for behind the TV though... No?

2nd gen are much brighter but these are designed for mood lighting not direct lighting, that said on white light that are bright enough for kitchen counter lighting for me (lack the ability to change the white coolness etc you can do with 2nd gen too...)

They're rated at 120 Lumens and people say they're not very bright, but I was quite surprised at how bright they actually are. I mean they're not going to light up the whole room but I put mine in the kitchen (as it'd be too expensive to replace the GU10s and the fixed light).
Here's what it was like at about 10pm with them as the only light source in the kitchen.

Just fitted my set tonight behind the TV,and I find them more than enough light,in fact I have to turn them down a bit when on certain colours.

Wow. Unbelievable people spend this much on light strips.
Shop around, other brands can be so much cheaper and they provide the same function.

Yeah not the same function. Sure you can get RGBW light strips cheaper but a driver for them that supports Zigbee Light Link and Zigbee Home Automation protocols is around £50.

No they don't, nothing works like Hue Strips do. Cheap Chinese junk with IR remotes are not the same thing!
