Four nights in Sofia is probably enough ...

Just back from Sofia...quite a vibrant city

Brilliant city. Cheap to eat and drink and very safe. Some brilliant pubs and great cafes. If you get the chance take the train to Plovdiv which takes just over 3 hours and have a night or two there. Nicer than Sofia and more civilised.

Wish that parking in Doncaster wasn't so expensive..

I'm quite sympathetic to be honest - airports don't make money from the flights, but from the car parking and money people spend in the restaurants and shops. Massive overheads, many you wouldn't think about like air traffic control, engineers, dozens of firemen, dozens of security staff, as well as the obvious check-in and handling agents.

Didn't think much to Sofia, but driving out to the Rhodope mountains was fantastic - like stepping back in time. Weather might be a bit treacherous in March though...

They do make money from flights
They make more money from whatever else
Greed and profit maximisation is taking them to the next level and they are all playing the same game since there aren't many new airports popping up
They are making us cough up money because of this situation

Airlines pays less fees when they fly to smaller airports that's why they can offer these very low prices. Sometimes it's the airport that has to pay the airline just to make them fly there to attract tourist (money). Ryanair is known to threaten airports that they'll either close the base or lower the amount of flights which of course will affect the economy of the country.

Yes, they make some revenue from landing fees but tiny amounts, and nowhere near enough to cover the costs of the flight using the airport. Don't even think Doncaster breaks even yet, it's only been open 12 years. Wizzair passengers, in general, are very low spenders in the terminal on food, duty free and parking.
