My only complaint is how few book character costumes there are about. It seems like most are from film/comics/TV programmes. I guess it's an old-fashioned view but I just feel that World Book Day should be about encouraging reading rather than an excuse for kids to get dressed up as characters they've seen on screen.

sainsburys have some costumes for book day, I've seen goldilocks, little red riding hood and others. I think they still have 25% off too.

a bit over the top here, the OP has kindly put in a deal for a £1 yes a £1 , i am sure parents who have thought like yours would put in few extra quid and buy something they want their child o be in. thanks OP for the post.

I do see where you're coming from, but then you could also make their costume as we always have.

The whole day is about reading that's why they dress up as a book character. What a silly thing to say.

Are these definitely £1 as when I saw them in store they were one of £land's "premium" lines?

There are plenty of books about super heroes which certainly encourage reading. My son has a fair few avengers books we like to sit and read together. Nothing wrong with avengers/Star Wars costumes for book day at all

Is anyone seriously saying that comic book characters aren't ideal for World Book Day dress-up? These characters were on the printed page for decades before anyone got to commit them to film.
