My only complaint is how few book character costumes there are about. It seems like most are from film/comics/TV programmes. I guess it's an old-fashioned view but I just feel that World Book Day should be about encouraging reading rather than an excuse for kids to get dressed up as characters they've seen on screen.

Sorry you think it's silly. There seems to be a lot of pressure on parents to find a costume and then the majority of costumes available to buy are Disney Princesses and Superheroes. Yep, there are Batman/Superman books and many Disney films are based on books: I'd just like to see more book character costumes available rather than primarily screen characters.

sainsburys have some costumes for book day, I've seen goldilocks, little red riding hood and others. I think they still have 25% off too.

a bit over the top here, the OP has kindly put in a deal for a £1 yes a £1 , i am sure parents who have thought like yours would put in few extra quid and buy something they want their child o be in. thanks OP for the post.

I do see where you're coming from, but then you could also make their costume as we always have.

The whole day is about reading that's why they dress up as a book character. What a silly thing to say.

So glad my children's school have declared book day a 'bedtime story' day. They can go to school in their pj's and take in their favourite book to read. Takes the pressure off parents to provide a costume.

Great buy.. but please just be careful to not allow your children near candles etc.. these costumes go up like lighter fuel! Obviously I know people arnt going to let their kids play with fire, but unfortunate accidents have happened in the past

Is anyone seriously saying that comic book characters aren't ideal for World Book Day dress-up? These characters were on the printed page for decades before anyone got to commit them to film.

Are these definitely £1 as when I saw them in store they were one of £land's "premium" lines?

There are plenty of books about super heroes which certainly encourage reading. My son has a fair few avengers books we like to sit and read together. Nothing wrong with avengers/Star Wars costumes for book day at all
