Remember you will need USB 3.1 (10Gbps) to get anywhere near the quoted speeds.

Someone has their Watts and Amps muddled up. The drive requires a usb 3.0/3.1 port capable of supplying 10 Watts ie 2A at 5V.

i use a internal ssd in a caddy with a sata to usb 3.1 cable. the down side is ssd prices has gone up but the versitility in my option is when needed i just have to pop the ssd into the application required.

Damn, its external. I dont see the need for superfast externals (yes its better than slow!), but its loading software thats the balls ache and its really internal that I'd love a 2TB SSD for

Being small, fast and having no moving parts make it perfect for travelling with and backing up camera and action cam media. Raw files from a D810 are around 40MB each so a fast backup drive is a must when taking lots of pics.

The number one reason is that you don't have to worry about the drive getting trashed from being moved and knocked around constantly... that's alot of data on that thing to lose, that is at risk if that a traditional hard disk breaks. After a few years it will likely put the drive out of commission even with a fancy case... (happened to my iomega blackbelt, which has amazing construction)
