So the game has a 9/10 on steam, however looking at metacritics it seems it has been hammered by critics (50/100*) whilst the user score (7/10*) is still high, which makes it rather more confusing. Anyhow, this is the cheapest it has ever been, I believe and sorry they are selling it for XB1 at this price only (Would have loved to try it out myself).

The critic score on metacritic for me is always way off the mark.... however a user score of plus 7 for a niche game like this... that'll ding dang do me pal....
I recently purchased steep and whilst it has its bugs and issues if you want a game where you ride bits of wood/other materials down a snow covered landscape it does what it says on the tin..... it's not as cool or edgy or indie as "everyone's gone to the rapture" so some cool kids and reviewers might turn their nose up.
Luckily I am not cool and never will be so it's all good

My understanding is from reading proper extended reviews from players and then looking at reviews... its a very good game that's very tricky and has a control scheme very different to normal games of this type and it takes time to get it... reviewers don't have time to play properly so they write it off as poor... with time invested its good... it probably means I wont pick it up as in my old age I am grumpy and need instant access... although if I see it under a tenner ill bite!
heat either way.
