55" 4k TV is utterly pointless, you're regular person won't notice the difference. 4k TV needs to be at least 65" and even then i'm not convinced it's enough.

1080p is more than enough at 55" unless you want to sit right in front of your tv, furthermore. Whilst we're on the subject, still severely lacking 4k content, 95% of most peoples TV viewing isn't even 1080p, let alone 4k.

This TV will destroy the likes of the Samsung UE55KS7000U which has been here for a similiar price, and is 4k

camera roll? i;m not getting into a willy waggling contest mate, and not even sure what that has to do with this? you're clueless based on your comments, if someone has 850 sheets to spend you would recommend they wasted it on an inferior 4k tv???

Ok, if you have 3k to spend, then yeah ok get a 4k OLED

Everyone told they need 4k, it's just not true, 1080p will be more than enough for most people for at least 5 more years.

You;re just not getting it are you

Spending £850 on a budget 4k TV is also a complete waste of money, if going 4k for it's superior image quality and viewing pleasure, what sense does it make to purchase a budget £850 4k TV??

I already said, if money is no object then you would purchase an OLED 4k TV, however this is a thread for a £850 TV, and you need to bear that in mind.

What was interesting was that someone bought an Amazon Warehouse 910V which stated it had dead pixels!
Even without dead pixels, I am not sure I'd want to spend that much with only a 30 day or year limited warranty.

You do realise this set (920) is also obsolete (in a manner of speaking) unless you're talking about a 2016 oleds - which you are not.

Just to clarify, there are further iterations of HDR which the 920 won't get - ever but at least the 2016 (although b6 might not) models will get a firmware upgrade to support HLG HDR.

This is the best non 4k set money can buy - period.

If you're not convinced, speak to owners of Panasonic and Pioneer plasma owners who bought an Oled.

Funny how you talk of CES 2017 but failed to provide any info whatsoever.

Oled - waste of money lol, clueless? If this is true, why are other market leaders jumping on the bandwagon?

Fact remains 4k HDR standard with further iterations on the way. HDR isn't set in stone and it seems we have another vhs/betamax showdown on the horizon, only with more participants.

Back on topic - this was a hot deal.

YOU BEEN WATCHING 1080P?! DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW!
I have a 1080p TV because until 4K actually get support why bother?! Tech gets a lot cheaper every year. Went into Currys, Richer Sounds, etc and they're showing off a demo with different post processing from SDR to Dolby Vison on an OLED TV worth more than £2k. Back in the real world there are no more than a few decent TV shows and movies to watch in 4k from any UK content provider.
HDR is currently a non-starter unless you like to play video games in the dark.

Apologies, I wasn't aware I needed to spoon feed, http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lg-55-inch-curved-4k-oled-tv-1199-96-costco-hayes-2550471 there are hot deals within this app for 55 OLED 4K with Dolby Vision or HDR for a couple hundred pound more, that £200-300 will future proof you and as mentioned stop you from wasting £900 on soon to be obsolete technology. Come on.... If you are going to upgrade to OLED why would you even consider 1080p :/

4k like HD will take time. I remember those awful early HD ready tv's that were a work in progress. I'll wait 2- 3 years when the flaws have been ironed out. 1080p is great for the Mo.

I viewed quite a few TVs in store before I settled on this model, including a couple of 4k 55" oleds, and I only really appreciated 4k on the 65" TVs, so I also think that 4k is only really worth having on 65" TVs and up.

In the end I came down to this or a 65" quantum dot samsung, and I went with OLED as I would have been unhappy to have another TV with grey blacks and would still be missing my hi-black screen sony trinitron CRT TV .

I was also tempted to spend several grand on the 65" OLED LG I saw that was absolutely stunning showing 4k content, and by far the best picture I saw.

By the time I need a new TV, hopefully there will be enough 4k content to make it worthwhile, and 65"+ OLEDs will be much cheaper, or LCD will have caught up.

This isn't good advice unfortunately. I phoned Amazon to report a scam seller once, and they insisted that the seller was genuine.

What had actually happened was that the seller's account was hacked, and they added lots of listings for TV's and Macbook's etc.

I had to contact the company who owned the account to let them know. They didn't even respond to me, but their Amazon account was later removed.

Amazon don't care less. This has been happening for years.

They aren't future proof either. The HDR spec is changing yet again this year when HDMI 2.1 releases and brings "Dynamic HDR" which is said to look better than standard HDR. The manufacturers have once again released unfinished tech to the masses.

We don't even have BBC HD on 101 sky yet, we are at least 2 years away from 4K TV channel - and upscalling HD to 4K is poo due to the compression
biddilybah
21 Jan 17 #24
The HDMI spec changing HDR again is the main issue I have with buying a TV right now. LG have arguably made their TVs more futureproof but they will still lack the HDMI spec for Dynamic HDR10. Until manufacturers confirm which TVs can be upgraded via firmware (some can apparently) I just wouldn't risk it. With a HDR format war looming too (unless Dolby Vision will just be a niche product), I'm staying well away for now and sticking with my TV for a while longer. Hasn't helped that they killed off 3D this year either. (Wasn't to everyone's taste but I enjoyed it and it's annoying they made my discs obselete on new tvs).
anthonynsinclair
21 Jan 17 #23
Far from clueless pal , I have more pictures on my camera roll of new technology being rolled out this year taken at the Las Vegas CES Convention 2017 than you could ever dream of. you are really wasting your money buying an OLED 1080p TV in 2017!
biddilybah
21 Jan 17 1 #20
Well apparently, the manufacturers were advised not to go to 4K and wait until 8K became available at a cheaper price. (8K is the maximum the human eye can see supposedly). They were told that the masses wouldn't notice a big enough jump from 1080p to 4K (They were right) hence why we now have HDR.

Basically, wait until CES 2018 if you can (a year from now) and then look to buy a new TV. We'll know then if this spec is truly completed then and the added benefit is the TVs will be cheaper too.

LG included Dolby Vision (ie dynamic HDR, where there is colour metadata for every scene) in 2016 though, and have a software update for HLG (broadcast HDR designed by the BBC).

I bought this TV from Amazon a couple of weeks ago when it was around £850. It is a fantastic TV at this price. The picture is outstanding when watching an HD signal. The only minor niggle is when you get the brightness dimming, this is only really noticeable when you have a full white background which mainly occurs when you watch TV adverts. I would give it a 9 out of 10. Hope this helps someone.
