I know this will be voted cold, but these are arguably the best Iphones in terms of price/performance at the moment.
John Lewis have reduced their Sim Free Unlocked Iphone SE prices-

What is SIM Free?
You'll receive the iPhone Unlocked without having to commit to any network, leaving you free to decide which SIM card to use in the device. This gives you the opportunity to find the most suitable plan, whether thats contract or pay-as-you-go, throughout the lifetime of the phone. You also have the option to add a foreign SIM card, so you can use the iPhone overseas.

Rubbish!!! John Lewis sell TOTALLY UNLOCKED iPhones (and always have!!!!). UK retailers known to sell totally unlocked iPhones include Apple Stores, John Lewis and GiffGaff. Buy from any of these and worries about "locking to first network" just do not apply.

You'd have to evaluate the pros and cons of each system.
IOS
Pros
Closed system, regularly updated, every app works on every device. Hardware/software optimisation excellent, but see also cons for why this isn't always great.
Cons
Customisation simply doesn't exist in comparison to Android. Squeezing one too many OS updates out on to older hardware effectively crippling the performance. Hardware can be lacking in comparison to the best Android hardware.
Android
Pros
Open source system, customisation is as good as it gets on any mobile OS.
Cons
App incompatibility between devices, due to the nature of Android having to run on multiple differing hardware configurations. Extremely poor updates again due to differing versions of hardware and the Android OS itself. Android can be and often is a clumsy buggy crippling mess of a system.
I use Android I couldn't change to IOS because I love the customisation aspect of Android which is impossible even with jail breaking on IOS, there's a lot I hate about Android as well which makes me tempted to go to IOS but I can't. This is not to say IOS is bad is certainly isn't, it has features which are not currently possible on Android and probably never will be, which are the hardware/software optimisation to the very few devices IOS needs to run on and app compatability for the same reason.
I see Android as a bodged OS, but a very useful bodged OS. I see Apple as a professional system but you use it how Apple specify and not the other way round.

Fantastic phone. Basically a 6s in a smaller body. Fantastic battery life, much better than 7.

I got my son 1 of these sim free from carphone warehouse when it first came out....all though it's "sim free" I was informed that it would be locked the the first sim card you put into it....not sure if this is the case with all of them....but might be worth checking first....excellent phone though

Thats carphonewarehouse as they sell "sim free" i think argos do too so they will get locked to the first sim but i got around that by putting in a 3 sim and once it got locked went onto the 3 site and got it unlocked for free...this one however says "unlocked" so as soon as you connect it to itunes you should get the " congratulations your iphone is unlocked" message
