This is £50 below the price that it was released at. Looks like a good bit of gear and it reviews well. GPD are an honest manufacturer who don't always get their hardware right on the first iteration, but are quick to release fixes. It might be a bit of a gamble with this, but if it pans out then it's a great deal.

This thing looks awesome, as you said, very niche! But awesome. Not sure I would risk that amount of money on a Gearbest purchase though, especially something that you'd be liable to want to use the warranty on :disappointed:

Yeah the first release version had some issues but this is v2 release Jan 10th so hopefully it's ok. I held off ordering until could get this v2. I have a Linx Vision 8 which has the much less powered X5 processor and it runs some older games great like Lost Planet, Dead Space 2, Arkham City so I have high hopes for this. I saw some vids of Skyrim running nicely on it.

The game controls look a bit awkward to get to...
I'd be tempted to get a low-power laptop / 2-in-1 tablet with a separate controller or if size is the most important factor, one of GPD's Android devices.

The thing is this runs older Steam games natively and is smallest form factor possible.
This one looks interesting and looks to be more powerful with the new AMD chipset but it's still in design phase: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/smachteam/smach-z-the-handheld-gaming-pc
Edit: and its built like a brick!

If this was 3G/4G I'd probably bite now, but without that, it seems to have limited use.

What's wrong with just connecting it via your phone?
