And at my work place. We have 17 Asus netbooks with 1GB RAM running windows 10. Not super quick obviously but it works.
If you knew what you ware talking about you would know that gb should be GB because it is shortened form for Giga Bytes and ram should be RAM because it is an acronym. Also there should be no space before the question marks.

I have a 1gb android phone and it runs music in the background just fine.... never had a single crash... and this is with a phone that's not as good a spec as the G4 and on marshmallow
With respect, your original comment states 1gb ram = epic fail, which is a massive over exaggeration...

I have the g4 play, the nice looking white model, I have plenty of apps open in the background and while I don't game (far too small a screen for a proper gaming experience) I use my phone for a hell of a lot more than my iphone toting friends. So far no issues, yeah if I try and load up about 10-15 chrome tabs at the same time as spotify, one of them is gonna stall. But with a few tabs it's just fine. you are exaggerating and you know it. 1gb is fine, yes if you want to do even more, more ram is good, and yes it's futureproofing too, but sometimes it just isn't worth paying the extra cash for the privilege.

1 Jan 17#69
No, sorry, but no. Listen to music? Yeah sure, if you only intend to stay within Google Play Music/Spotify and not have it run in the background, because I can guarantee you that the moment you leave it and start opening other apps it will stutter and crash. 1GB RAM on Android is a miserable experience. I've had numerous devices with 1 GB RAM and it struggles to multitask with the basic stuff at all. You'll be constantly reloading and even redrawing the home screen.
As we roll into 2017 you should stay clear of 1GB Android devices.

Honestly you'd think this phone was as old as a Nokia 3310 the way some people are going on here!
1gb of RAM will be fine if you mainly use your phone for calling, texting, taking pictures, listening to music, surfing HUKD & Facebook, playing Candy Crush etc... i.e. the things 95% of people tend to use their phones for. If you try to edit videos or run 20 applications at once you may struggle!! BE WARNED!! And ignore the snobs around here
preecey to gb1999

My comments are primarily aimed at making sure people get a decent experience out of their phones. The bottom line is - you simply cannot multitask properly on an Android device with 1GB. Listen to music and browse the web at the same time? Forget it. 2GB of RAM is essential for a fluid experience, fact.
However if people plan to do one thing at a time and don't intend to play the latest games, then yes, 1GB will suffice.

Plus people who like to listen to music in the background.
My Android tablet, which has only 1GB of RAM, very frequently kills the music service when I'm browsing a slightly graphically intensive website at the same time. As a result I have to go back in to my music app and start playing the song again. Once I've done this, I then have to go back into Chrome and almost always find that Android has then also killed the tab of the website I was browsing, resulting in it having to reload.
So if you want to listen to music and browse websites at the same time, this phone is NOT for you!
Oh, and did I mention that Android phones/tablets with 1GB of RAM also suffer from launcher redraw issues? When my tablet kills my music app after browsing something too heavy in Chrome, I press the home button and almost always I have to wait around 5 seconds for Nova Launcher to reappear again.
Android + 1GB of RAM = Epic fail!
Android + 2GB of RAM = Minimum requirement for efficient multitasking
Android + 3GB of RAM = Enough to cater for highly intensive tasks in the background
Android + 4GB of RAM = Plenty

never going to buy a lenovo phone again which is what Motorola is these days, compared to the innovative Moto G V1-V3 this range of G4 is a major step in the wrong direction, cheap build quality, Ghost touch issues, no thanks, i'm staying well clear.

Completely agree. From someone with a quad core Intel Compute Stick with full Windows 10, latest update and 2gb ram I can tell you even that struggles to perform even the most basic of tasks if you have a few tabs open. 1gb for full Windows 10 would be a joke!

They put 2Gb in the Dual SIM Moto G4 which I bought from Amazon. Perhaps they stuck at 1Gb in the Moto G4 Play to keep the cost down.
The full version Of Microsoft Windows 10 can easily work on 1GB RAM I'm surprised a Linux based OS is less efficient.

I didn't say the G4 was a weak phone. Jesus Christ. There's a lot of people who can't read in this thread. I'll try again.

The regular G4 should be £100 by now. This isn't a good price for a weak phone.

The G4 isn't a weak phone. Too many **** this phone off because of the bootloop problem. Yes I know that it could effect any G4 but considering how many were sold the bootloop only effects early versions and later build dates on a small percentage. No way would it sell at £100.

A lot of it comes down to how the OS has been setup on the phone - there of course has been very light weight custom roms setup on older / entry level devices which run Marshmallow and Nugaut no problems at all but like any OS (Apple included) once the user starts to add to it, it will slow down slightly... however with 1gb, will slow down quickly. You need to remember the same ROM give or take is being used on the international version of this phone which has 2gb ram.
Common apps such as Facebook and Messenger which would no doubt be used on this phone use over 0.5gb when running, doesn't leave much left for the OS and other apps does it.

You are quite right, Windows Phone's do cope better with lower hardware demands but with their market share shrinking even further and big name apps dropping support, it is difficult to compare how Windows and Android run on day to day.
With iOS, they only have to cater for about 6 devices (if you take iOS 10 for example which dropped all phones prior to 5C) so similar to game consoles, they are able to get more out of the hardware.
No one is saying Android won't run on 1gb, we are simply saying it won't be a pleasant experience and that there are other options for slightly more where the experience would be far greater.

Seriously guys, 1GB of RAM in an Android phone is NOT sufficient unless you only plan to use it for calls and texts.

I couldn't agree more. I completely get this is an entry level phone and peoples needs will not be the same as someone buying a £300+ phone but 1gb will be such a dog to run even basic apps. The rest of the hardware is fine for the price range.
On the point of the P9 Lite, I can personally recommend this phone - few of my friends own it and I have had both the Honor 7 and Honor 8, both suberb phones that Huawei keep up to date. The P9 Lite is getting Android 7 in Q1 2017, there is a early build already available.
