I'd like to add to this also that *not* having a best before date on veg goes some way towards stopping wastage for large supermarkets, who dispose of tonnes of perfectly good fruit and veg every week just because a 'best before date' says that they should, and because many consumers won't buy things that they feel aren't fresh, even though their is nothing wrong with it.

Unfortunately these days people rely more on best before dates than their noses and eyes, which is very sad.

Be aware, I think there is a limit on how much you can buy. I had a trolley full of veg at the checkout but realised I needed another bag of small onions. I asked the guy on the till if it was alright to go and grab another bag and he said 'no that's shallot!'
I reckon you might be able to buy a few in each store though.....Lidl by Lidl
