I've been lurking this one for a few days now. Here's my story thus far. My objective to replace my six year old macbook pro with a cheapish windows laptop that could hopefully last me the next two years and cope with watching you tube browsing the web and listening to pod casts. I was armed with all your kind posts in this thread as to what to expect from the challenge that lay before me. Oh my did I want a cigarette afterwards. You would expect ten minutes tops for a sales rep to find the item I wanted and sell it. Nope :disappointed: Firstly 'what are you using the laptop for' said the sales rep. I replied youtube, browsing the web and listening to podcasts. The sales rep then said come with me sir, err ok I said. The poor young chap had to do his up sell and so it began. 'Could I interest you in 365 office ?' no was my reply. 'Why' he asked. Well I won't be using that software as I told you before but if I was I see software as product not a service. Oh he said. Then you would want word on its own then. But I added no, I don't want it. Ok then how about internet security then Norton / mcafee perhaps ? No thanks. How about our online storage solution then its brilliant. No thanks besides amazon offers it in their amazon prime if I wanted (not sure if they have or do but hey  Ok then how about I give you all this software for half price ? No. He asks me why. I told him I just want to buy the laptop thats all but I realise he is just doing his job and that although I'm not going to listen to him I will make it look like I am for his benefit. Ok then he smiles awkwardly. Ahem he says ' you do realise that the laptop has a lot of updates it needs to do since it was packaged at the factory ? Oh yea been there done that. Well how about I offer you a memory stick 32gb with all the updates to speed your laptop update alone ? Err no thanks I'll do that my self thanks. Ok then £15 is that better. No I just want the laptop thats all. Ok ' what happens if during the course of updating your laptop the software fails and you can't recover the laptop he said. Well I said I either bring it back to you, boot via the bios via the recovery partition on the hard drive using the Novo button or bring it back to you and your tech people fix it. No he said. I look puzzled and tell him then doesn't that affect my consumer rights and I should go to the relevant people to seek legal advice ? Oh he said err ahem perhaps. He then leaves to find the box with the laptop i want in it. He comes back five minutes later looking puzzled. He can't find it. Is there a problem I ask. Oh its just I can't find the power adapter he said. Oh I say but it should be in the box, the box is sealed right, I'm not buying a new nintendo 3ds. He wanders off again. Ten minutes pass. He returns with the laptop in its box. He take it to the counter and I check the seal on the box carefully. It looks ok. Phew  Then he tries for the penultimate time to up sell me. Would sir be interested in our accidental breakage cover. Nope  He then walks away with the laptop to converse with his line manager. I'm feeling annoyed and bad for the kid but I just want out. If reading this isn't torture enough for you it was for me. He comes back to offer me to free months of cover and I decline. Lastly as he is ringing up my purchase he interrupts me to ask if I would like a deal on a mobile phone. I tell him I have one and its tied with my broadband. I lie to him about the wonderful deal I have on a rolling contract and he gives up still smiling. I would never want to work for PC World. I feel sorry for the staff and the customers. Its already been 'emotional' as Vinnie Jones once put it. I don't want to go back ever again you can't make me wha wha wha

Just bought a white one for my daughter. Whilst at the store i checked the display unit to find the backlit keyboard didn't work. The assistant checked and confirmed the model does not have a backlit keyboard. The manager offered a refund and gave an excuse about the incorrect specification being a human error.
I bought it anyway and checked it once I got home. DEFINITELY NO BACKLIT KEYBOARD. If this feature is a deciding factor, think again!!!

Don't really get why people keep suggesting the 710 from John Lewis, It's not as if it's just an extra 50 or 100 quid, It's an extra 250, Yes you get extra storage space which we all like, But you need to be sure you need and are going to use the extra 4 gig and the i5 to justify the extra 250, An all balls out gaming rig only needs 8 gig of memory, So why it's felt you need 8 gig in this I have no idea, If you do the occasional bit of photo-editing this will still do, But be fair, If your someone that does loads, Your be sitting at a desktop with a all singing 27" and not a 14" screen.
This will do anything the average person needs it to do with ease, And if I'm gonna go to 600 quid for a laptop, Then I'm going the whole hog for a HP Spectre or XPS 13 and not the 710.
a9 better for light gaming but i'd personally go for this i3 it'd be much quicker due to the ssd

That model is £50 more expensive, the APU is only slightly better in gaming, other than that, this deal is better in every way, from the better overall CPU, has FullHD screen, and built in SSD which will make it feel faster than the unit ith a mechanical drive, all that for £50 less.

No need to guess as 6 series = Skylake.

Mind you, that's a slightly different model. (Why oh why do they use non-unique model numbers...)
