Leading authoroties recommend that both ionisation and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fires that can occur within the home. Ionisation sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with fast flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible fire particles (associated with slow smouldering fires) sooner than ionisation alarms. industry experts recommend specific locations for smoke alarms, such as every level and sleeping area of the dwelling.

This post should be at 1022 not 22. People are still losing their lives to fire and this little inexpensive item could have saved them. Buy it/vote it hot and if you've already got one give it to someone you know who hasn't.
Heat for me.

Tax payers. Your contribution will be less than 1p. So, I would say free.
The one you've linked to has a fair few poor reviews on Amazon, which are a tad offputting.

The Kidde 29D isn't tested on the Wh*ch website (don't read anything negative into that) however the Kidde 10Y29 suggested above is. Overall it gets a 73% rating.
Pros - Simple to use, good response in all fires, decent sound level, clear instructions.
Cons - There are even quicker performers and louder alarms overall.
