yes, the echo also allows you to group them to turn on / dim / change colour ect of multiple lights at the same time something you cant do without the echo

Yes and no. They do, but you need the Hive Hub. The bulbs talk to the hub and Alexa talks to the hub

Good price. Hue man myself with about 20 bulbs.
The lifx ones work with alexa and don't require a hub, don't know how good they are compared to the hue, but if you're only after 1 or 2 bulbs probably more cost effective
Does anyone know if they can be dimmed via a wall switch as well as the app?

Yes they can. But it is not recommended. Once you have dimmed them from the switch it overrides hive - you can still dim them further through hive or turn them off - but you cannot turn them up higher than the dimmer switch has set them to.
