Yes, although now I've had a proper look, the G3220 does have an advantage over the Gen 8's G1610T
That's what I have. Good machine but not as well built as an HP, however four memory and four pci slots make it much more expandable. Another advantage over the HP is there is brackets for 2 x SSD as standard in place of the Optical Drive.
The remote management on the Xeon is really good, you get full KVM support from BIOS via RealVNC. You do not get this facility on the non Xeon model.

I was after a gen 8 till I seen this, too cheap to turn down
It only has 4 sata headers, 4 sata power and no spare molex or anything. So I wouldn't pay extra for 500gb disk unless you actually want it. The included sata power cables are too short to reach the top 2.5" bays
I went for one of these over a Gen 8 just because it was going up in the loft so I didn't care what it looked like. I also found it quieter than my previous Microserver.
However if you do want to change the CPU I think you have far more options on the Gen 8. There is very little information as to what the T20 supports other than the Xeon processors. That's the only complaint I have, otherwise it does a great job running xpenology.

Same here, the G3220 is OK but once plex starts transcoding it can become sluggish.

The piezo buzzers on these constantly make a very quiet noise, put your finger over it and you'll hear the difference. You can just cover it with some tape
